Does it really matter? I think we all saw it coming. Fact that he didn't let a replacement be named is troubling when it comes to a vote. But no one is really irrplaceable. And for the citizens of Massechuets, the delay would seem to be political.
A man that was diagnosed with brain cancer knows his time is metered. At least here in my world I just said goodby to a fine woman who was just diagnosed less than four months ago. She was very important to many lives and tried to prepare those surviving for her loss. I would have expected Mr. Kennedy to have done at least that much.
Even when diagnosed with a terminal ailment? Why not? Most average people write wills and try to protect they estates. A Kennedy didn't do the same? Or did it serve a purpose to hold his senate position in limbo? Is that the only way he could receive health care coverage?
Nobody knows when they're going to die though, someone with brain cancer can live for 3 weeks or 6 years
Apparently researching this Mass's own law has failed them. Back in 2004 they were so worried Kerry would win and Romney would appoint a Republican that the governor was stripped of his powers to name a replacement for the senate seat. So the Democrats now just lost their super majority until an election is held to replace the seat.
It is just amazing and remarkable how much HATRED is coming to the surface regarding the Kennedys since Ted died... What the heck did HE do that was so awful? For that matter, what the heck did ANY of them do for so much venom to be spewing out all over the net?
Earthmother. These youngins' are so cynical it's hard to believe.Maybe it has to do with how information is disseminated. We never suspected that our legislators were so bought and paid for, back in the day,but everything comes out now and the last 8 years didn't help much when everyone can now see how delicate the whole monetary system can be.Life and living was so easy compared to today --vehicles 10 to 40 thousand now--houses priced out of sight--jobs shipped overseas as if it's the most natural thing to do.I don't know--I guess I do understand a lot of the cynicism. It's a differant world to be sure. The same ones that have always impeded progress on civil rights, womens rights, social progress like health care for all,the rights of people to form unions--the the folks that believe some should be incredibly rich while others get sick and die with no care, homeless Vets wander the streets hoping for handouts to survive and the middle class can just screw it's self. It's the same class of people and the middle class dummies that are so easy to convince to their way of thinking that cause this caustic atmosphere. What to do?
And the Kennedys were/are some of the few very rich that were instrumental in advancing social programs that helped the middle class.
Is Ted Kennedy a murderer? The Kennedy clan has always been a bit, how should I put this creepy to me. For instance I find the Chappaquiddick incident to be a perfect example of what I mean, In 69' Ted attended a party in Chappaquiddick, a small island connected via ferry to the town of Edgartown on the adjoining larger island of Martha's Vineyard. Toward the end of the night the young Ted decided to excuse himself from the party and took one Mary Jo Kopechne, a former campaign worker for the assassinated U.S Senator Robert F. Kennedy up on her offer to give her a lift home as well, upon asking Ted why not bring a chauffeur to drive them, he replied that they were all still enjoying the festivities. Kopechne, by all accounts told no one she was leaving the shin dig, and left both her purse and hotel key at the party. According to his inquest testimony, Kennedy made a wrong turn onto Dike Road, an unlit dirt road that led to Dike Bridge (also spelled Dyke Bridge). Dike Road was unpaved, but Kennedy, driving at "approximately twenty miles an hour", oddly took "no particular notice" of this fact. Dike Bridge was a wooden bridge angled obliquely to the road with no guardrail. A fraction of a second before he reached the bridge, Kennedy applied his brakes; he then drove over the side of the bridge. The car plunged into tide-swept Poucha Pond (at that location a channel) and came to rest upside-down underwater. Ted swam from the wreckage and then claims to have made multiple attempts to pull her from the half submerged 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88, but to to avail. It was at this point things get a bit odd in my opinion, as Ted still for goes calling the authorities in place of a "nights sleep" that was apparently interrupted by loud noise in the suite adjacent to his at ruffly 2:30 a.m. Earlier that morning, two amateur fishermen had seen the overturned car in the water and notified the inhabitants of the cottage nearest to the pond, who called the authorities at around 8:20 am. A diver was sent down and discovered Kopechne's body at around 8:45 am.The diver, John Farrar, later testified at the inquest that Kopechne's body was pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed. He interpreted this to mean that Kopechne may have survived for a while after the initial accident in the air bubble, and concluded that, “ Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of the accident occurring, and was able, as I was the following morning, to be at the victim's side within twenty-five minutes of receiving the call, in such event there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car " medical examiner, Dr Donald Mills, was satisfied that the cause of death was accidental drowning. He signed a death certificate to that effect and released Kopechne's body to her family without ordering an autopsy. Later, on September 18, District Attorney Dinis attempted to secure an exhumation of Kopechne's body in order to perform a belated autopsy, citing blood found on Kopechne's skirt and in her mouth and nose "which may or may not be consistent with death by drowning". The reported discovery of the blood was made when her clothes were turned over to authorities by the funeral director. I suppose my biggest question would be why wait so long to call the authorities, time to sober up? Time to hide evidence and make connections? time to formulate the lie, or maybe I'm just paranoid...
I assume probably time to sober up like cheney did(assuming again) when he shot that guy in the face. There really doesn't seem to be equal justice when it comes to the mighty as opposed to the rest of us.
Out of 4 brothers he's the only one to live to be an old man and die of natural causes. Perhaps Chappaquiddick saved his life in that it kept him from becoming more powerful and getting his own ass assasinated (ass assasinated?). That is, if you believe in kharma.
A little article about the Kennedys, written by a "family" member back in 2003... http://hurherald.com/cgi-bin/db_scripts/articles?Action=user_view&db=articles_hurherald&id=9843
But while he was possibly sobering up in order for the press headlines to read "Ted Kennedy's secretary killed in tragic accident" as opposed to, "Ted Kennedy's accused of man slaughter while intoxicated." A young woman drowned to death in an accident the lead diver said was avoidable had he been contacted after it happened instead of the next morning.
Ted Kennedy was human and made mistakes??? WOW! Jesus yea he fucked up just like everyone here has done horrible things, but whether you agreed with his policies or not, Kennedy did more to actually help the working poor and for civil liberties then almost anyone else in congress, and would actually reach across the aisle with the same vigor he had for his side on the few issues he and Republicans could agree on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sic...?id=3285858&ref=fpblg&feature=player_embedded This speech can send shivers down your spine
