Feeling sorry for myself. I'm stuck in hospital over the bank holiday weekend. I have epilepsy and had a seizure at work today. I'm a teacher. Colleagues saw it happen. I'm sure everyone will know by now. Anyone have experience with anything like this?
No. I'm thankful that I've never had a seizure. Did it happen in front of any of your students? I've heard good things about medical mj and seizures. Have you considered your medication options?
Thankfully no students saw this time. But a colleague who already has issues with me and didn't know about my epilepsy witnessed it. From what I've been told, my head of department ushered her out of the room as quickly as possible but she knew there was something happening. I've never tried it. Not sure it would be a good idea with my career. Plus I'm in the UK where it's not yet legalised.
If your students were aware of the situation and educated as to what it involves, I"m sure they would be very understanding and helpful
I'm just so wary of students knowing. There are only a handful of staff who know. The principal, my department head, the school nurse and the librarian who is a first aider know.
I had seizures for a year after gettin' hit in the head with an axe & that was bad enough. Can't even imagine what it's like livin' like that every day. As to the staff at your school knowin' surely if you have documentation of your condition there's nothin' they can do or say. My job fired me because I couldn't provide documentation of the seizures but if I'd had them I'm fairly sure they'd have kept me on.
I had grand mal seizures for four years, during puberty, caused by extensive brain damage from a fall down the basement stairs when I was three years old. As a result, my hands shook for 30 years and anyone looking at me could tell something was wrong. Just ignore them all, because they want to ignore you. Barbie and Ken have better things to do, like vote for a president who never pays taxes and cuts the mass media a deal on their rent. One in five Americans insists the sun revolves around the earth, while their teachers complain nobody believes in Darwinism.
Don't get sad, get mad! Mad as hell that a bunch of complete idiots are still making like miserable for half the world. Not for much longer though.
