That is so unsensitive towards the African American students at the school. Although they were trying to recreate the history of racism in America, I feel as though this is just too insensitive.

This seems to have highlighted a little bit of racism within that school...
To be fair, we are not to know if the kids who wanted to re-enact a lynching were serious or not.
If they were then I would have thought that type of mentality would be perfect to go into the project.
Instead of "These people are bad" they could have asked "why".
I'm sure it was meant as a joke...but it is still insensitive.
I hope she does not lose her job.

all i can say is what the fuck? how is that a good idea? next they'll be dressing up like nazis. she could have utilized the opportunity by highlighting the struggle against racism. she's just a closed minded teacher in georgia. man georgia is what...49th in the school system. you can see why here, thanks a lot Gov. SP /rant

I can see why it would be a problem -- but I do think it is being blown out of proportion.

(Personally, at my highschool, I would've been quite afraid to dress up that way)

Being a teacher, she should've foresaw any troubles here, but the article is unclear about how much she encouraged the students and whatnot.

I keep thinking about how this one CMU frat often celebrates American holidays by painting revolutionary slogans on their building -- and one time they at as far as having an effigy of King George hanging.

wow, not a good idea down here. I moved to SC not too long ago, and it seems for both the black and white people the civil war and racism hasn't ended yet. The white people are still pretty racist and ignorant, and the black people are SUPER sensitive about it, to the point where many seem to just assume every white person thinks of them as a n-----.
Im not saying everyone everywhere in the south is like that. But I can say around here at least that is the majority.

Those kids probably had no idea weather it was a joke or if they were in real danger...

People are too overly goddamn sensitive today.

The assignment was for UNITED STATES HISTORY. And the KKK killed many blacks during and after the civil war, it happened, accept it, it happened, it..fucking..happened.

I see it as inspirational as how far we've come as a nation (even though racism is still VERY much alive) you dont see groups of whites grabbing blacks off the streets and hanging them simply because, well, there black!!

Its showing our dark history, nothing wrong with showing the TRUTH about our past, if we forget the past, it is bound to repeat itself. Im with the teacher, we need more controversy like this in our school.

Lastly, fuck sensitivity, lifes a joke, stop getting your panties in a bunch :)

Acting is acting, the teacher and children never pretended to be really meaning what they said and did. However I do think we should be sensitive where children are involved - someone felt scared because he/she didn't understand what was going on and may have felt it was real. Maybe other methods of teaching would have been better, like reading a book on the topic?
