Dead leaves+water= tea... Or a swamp, depending on location and conditions.

Then I must be the worst snob on the planet, along with everyone else in the UK. Coffee is regarded as the elitist drink over here. Tea is more associated with the work canteen.

This interesting. I didn't know that. People here think of the British as upper-crusty sort of elitist types anyhow tho.

tea gets bitter if you let it steep for more then three minuets. another thing is a lot of teas don't require the water to be hot.

many wild 'weedy' plants make wonderful teas (or infusions if you want to get picky about leaves and other things that don't come from tea plants) that aren't bitter at all.

as for people who think ignorance makes them somehow better then anyone who reads, studies, or is honest with themselves,
well they can live in their world, and no thanks but i'll live in one that has a slightly higher probability of resembling reality.

no one i know thinks the brits are elitist....except when an actual brit talks about the royals

in Canada we have different laws ......we are actually permitted to sweeten our tea with honey or sugar etc

If it’s bitter, try steeping it for less time or trying a new type of tea.
