I saw Taxi Driver when I was about 17 and working in a theater. There were people walking out at the end because of the violence. Now it's tame compared to current movies. It's still one of my all time favorites.

Taxi Driver is a great movie. I read that DeNiro actually drove a cab in New York before shooting the film. Even back then it was dangerous.
"Taxi Driver" inspired John Hinkley to try to kill President Reagan. It is a dangerous movie because the script writer modeled the DeNiro character on the young men who killed John and Robert Kennedy and John Lennon, and who tried to kill George Wallace.
