saw this on the history channel. Basically weed is illegal unless you have the stamp, but in order to get the stamp you have to have the weed on you. So when you go to get the stamp you have your weed and get arrested. Basically the whole stamp thing is just something the gov't did in the 1920's cause they couldnt ban it outright or something like that. I cant really explain it that well, look it up on the internet.

afaik -some- states still have tax stamps for -some- illegal substances, which can be purchased ANONYMOUSLY and WITHOUT anything on you, but only for certain amounts of product. the ONLY benefit of the stamps is not getting fines for not paying taxes on illegal products. its just like you pay taxes for cigarettes, only since its a black market product they can't enforce it except by offering some incentive to do so. if you live in an area in which you can purchase tax stamps and affix them to the packaging of the substance, you're likely to get in -less- trouble than if you don't have them. if you make your money in any illegal fashion you still have to report the income on your federal tax return, though, so if you're moving big weights then tax stamps offer no protection from the IRS. that said, accounting for this type of thing in your tax return is MUCH more likely to get you in trouble than the stamps. basically the requirement of including illegal income in your taxes is a way to add to penalties if you DO get caught another way (big time dealer gets busted, then the IRS will ask for the taxes in addition to all the other shit you go through for committing the crime! the tax trouble is not specifically because you were doing something illegal, but because you were withholding taxes. that said, if you DO report it to the IRS, then they would not have any authority to punish you themselves because you're paying taxes, but they might still pass the information along to someone who CAN punish you for what you're doing) on the one hand tax stamps are pretty progressive -the way i understand them, at least, which may well be faulty- because there is a way to get in less trouble for your drugs if you follow the rules. on the other hand its more likely just a way to get you in MORE trouble if you're sensible enough not to report your own illegal affairs to the government! but the tax stamps are better than the income tax bullshit, as far as big dealers are concerned. its all a crock of shit though.
