Old timers will tell you how inexpensive tattoos used to be. The quality of the art has improved, where fine artists can ask high prices now adays. It's a trade off.
If it's something you really want, it really doesn't matter...because technically, you've been saving up for it, right? For someone getting inked on impulse, yeah its an expensive trip downtown.
I think it is worth paying a large sum for a quality tattoo. I guess it's usually about 100 dollars per hour for a skilled hand, and depends also on the amount of detail involved in the tattoo. I would never get a tattoo by someone who isn't a pro. I would be worried about infection for one thing, and I wouldn't want someone to draw a permanent piece of shit on my body.
A Good tattoo isn't cheap, and a cheap tattoo isn't good One of the tattoo artists around here had that in their window
Both of my tattoos were pretty inexpensive, and my work is great. The one on my lower back was $120 and the one on my shoulder was $50.
the one shop that I went to that had the saying that mystik posted was $150/hour and they quoted me 6 hours for a tat that everyone else quoted me 2-3 hours. Even the original shop that did the tattoo that I wanted. And when I looked at his work, it was REAL shitty! I dont' know if that saying is always true.....
