Has anyone here tried Tai Chi? I know that it is a form of relaxation and meditation, but I would like to know more. Thanks...
My mom once did it. It's sorta ls martial art. Imagine taekwondo, just with slooowww movements, where you concentrate on energy flow. It's one of those that can make you live longer...
Its based off of chinese martial arts ( or they are based off of it, depending on who teaches it). To most people who never really get into to it, it just has to do with strengthining your core muscles through stances and helping your joints with movement. However, to those who get into the metaphysical aspect of it, you move your chi through your body to prevent illness and promote long life. It also has great martial arts value if you know how to use it. Its is said that it holds the secreats of very powerful chi strikes in the forms.
I started learning it, but didn't have the patience... One day I would like to get back into it, though...
I've been doing it for a few weeks now, I think Cornball1 has described it quite well. Took this off http://www.taichi-ireland.com just said I'd post it as it's a flash based site and no everyone can access that.
Thanks Cornball1...AutumnAuburn...and Spacer. I finally got to try it at home and was a little impatient in the beginning because of the certain moves I was having difficulty doing. I started to breath the correct way and just have my movements flow naturally and I have to admit in the end I felt very relaxed and as if I had done a full workout. It was great...I hope that I can continue to learn by myself. (It is a bit hard when you don't have a personal teacher physically with you.)
Where in Texas are you Tulip? I know a few good martial arts schools in Texas and you may be able to get someone there to teach you tai chi.
Yeah it's really important that you have a teacher, I couldn't see books or videos being near as good.
