Break one head lettuce into bite-sized pieces, add 4 tomatoes diced, add 3 cans kidney beans, add 1 lb ground turkey or ground beef, (can add green peppers if desired), add 1 jar thousand island dressing and 1 jar taco sauce (mild, medium, hot - to taste). Toss, serve with tortilla chips.
What I described is good for a family or group of 4 to 6 people. It doesn't keep well after about a day, though is pretty good if I add more taco sauce (the taco sauce seems to lose its kick after a day or so). Of course, the lettuce begins to wilt a little after the first day, so it's not a recipe that keeps for long periods. I've also heard of some people using ranch dressing instead of thou. island. I would imagine a chipote ranch would be ourstanding.
Thousand island is my favorite dressing with taco salad, I prefer the cooler ranch doritos chips to tortilla chips, it adds a slight zest along with the thousand island dressing.
That sounds delicious... I've found my favorite one here though...plus some canned corn. Everyone's sceptic about it at first but once they taste it... :sunny:
