The rebels have entered Damascus after an amazing blitz from the north. They even reached Assads worse prison where torture was routine.

Meanwhile, Bashar Assad and the Russians have fled. Most of Assad's army has laid down arms and disappeared. Hezbollah, who were essential to Assad's power, are powerless now after Israel hit them hard.

The rebels are being cautious, not fighting unless they have to. They seem to be trying to unite rather than destroy. They even said they will destroy any chemical weapons they find, as those weapons were used by Assad on his own people.

The rebels were once affiliated with Al Qaeda, but disassociated 8 years ago.

Big question is can the Russians defend their two remaining air and navy bases which they desperately need to maintain their presence in the middle east?

Update: Israeli jets just hit Assad's chemical weapons factory, not waiting for the rebels to secure it.

Syrian loot Assad's palaces reminiscent of Saddam's downfall.

Jet possibly carrying Assad disappeared over Syria. No one knows what happened to it. GPS jamming was active in the area, possibly causing plane to reverse course back over rebel held territory.

Interesting development. These rebels sound more liberal than many Islamic rulers in other countries. Time will tell whether women will be subjected to the usual islamic subjugation or will be treated as equals and is it going to be another--believe / think as we do or we'll kill you? We'll see.

    I dunno...
"The rebels who have swept through Syria are led by Islamist alliance Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS...The founder of HTS, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, was once a participant in the Iraqi insurgency against the US as a member of the group that eventually became Islamic State. In its former incarnation as Jabhat al-Nusra or the Al-Nusra front, HTS later declared allegiance to al-Qaida. It eventually publicly broke those ties in 2016 and rebranded as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, or Organization for the Liberation of the Levant."

The rebels have been negotiating with the Russians allowing them to keep their bases and protecting their embassy.

The Russians were bombing the rebels, so this stops that. Also the Russians no doubt pay Syria a lot to keep the bases there.

In two days and nights Israel has decimated Syria's military. Over 80% of its hardware has been destroyed including Mig aircraft, S300 and S400 missile systems, sunk the entire Syrian navy, destroyed their chemical weapons facilities and weapons and fuel storage.

Thanks to the power vacuum after the fall of Assad, this sudden opportunity was used. This keeps those weapons away from jihadists, and demilitarizes much of the country.

Russia has fled, it's navy is somewhere else, and they are still evacuating weapons. But the Russians have many bases, scattered around the country and 7500 soldiers based in Syria. Their status is not known.

You try to insult people but most of your posts are an insult to whatever self you once were.

You make a mistake thinking that it's anything to me. I just noticed that when it happens who picks what side and funny how it comes up the American left is always anti-christian.
No, I despise them because of my government's obsession with them. I guess if they were pretty smart desirable people our government wouldn't be able to operate them like puppets.
I wish the whole Middle East would roll up in a ball and right down the toilet drain get a plunger and force the clog on down to alla and yoohoo with all their paleo children.

My country and this continent is my business not the stinking horrible rest of the stinking horrible world, Beyond I sure don't want anything European, Asian or Middle East for any kind of culture or Society here? I remember how it was before.

You're doing all the frothing and my yaqui mother matches whatever claim you're making to Native blood?
Why wasn't our country about our people and our lives instead of all these no good lousy things that don't even like us and have nothing to offer us and no redeeming qualities?
I think I sound more pro native than you?
