hi, im no stranger to chemistry and have quite abit of experience of stimulant synthesis, but ive recently started to delve into the relms of opiate chemistry.
i have ALOT of eperience when it comes to codeine extraction (but obviously that doesnt take a genious)
anyway i have just stumbled apon a few threads relating to the synthesis of dihydromorphine from dihydrocodeine by refluxing in HCL with a dash of boric acid as a rate enhancer, but have yet to find anyone who has claimed to have completed the synthesis or any solid information for that matter.
anyway to get to my point, i dont have access to boric acid but have read that the same reaction will occur without the boric acid if left to reflux for about 90 - 100 hours (as aposed to 26hours with the boric acid)

so the plan so far is to...

    1. reflux DHC and HCL (1g per 30ml) for 100hours
    2. let cool to room temp and filter
    3. basify to pH 9.1 with ammonia to precipitate DHM freebase
    4. then either...
a)filter precipitate and wash with acetone.
b)extract with toluene, evaporate and wash with acetone.

dihydrocodeine is available OTC in the UK for about £25 a gram, but this is purly an experiment so money isnt really somthing to take into a consideration.

    any opinions?

really? i havent been able to find it OTC here in the UK, borax has now been replaced with "borax substitute" (sodium sesquicarbonate), i know pure boric acid powder is available online but im unable to buy from online so im stuck with buying OTC :/ do you know of any products still available OTC in the UK ?
