Sydney Riots - Fucking Wrong!

    Did anyone see in the paper today about the riots in Sydney? This is fucking terrible. If anyone doesnt know, a mob that grew to about a thousand people chased down anyone who looked middle eastern and beat them! It really is fucking shameful to see this happen in Australia, and such a big mob too.
    According to The Age newspaper people were wearing swastika t-shirts and also carrying the autralian flag as they rioted. It disgusts me that this happens.

    unfortunately this whole thing is going to run and run. all the good will isn't going to find a solution to the problem. a temporary solution would be to put up road blocks up and stop the problem driving into the area, although not conforming to political hygiene it will probably diffuse the problem. . the mob attacks have been a knee jerk reaction. when i first came into the country i came across a tiny newspaper article about a british backpacker returning from work one night and being set upon by a pack of arabs and being stabbed 50-60 times, to death of course. i am a great believer of cause and effect and karma - what you send out you get back. knowing that there would be this kind of problem going on down at cronulla you would have to be a bit stupid to go down there, whats worse if you bait the crowd before hurling abuse at them then don't be expected to be attacked. I didn't go down there because i knew there would be trouble if you went down there expecting sunshine and lollipops you are obviously not firing on all pistons.

    This event will eventually be seen as Australia's Crystalnacht, the night when Hitler's Brown Shirts went on the rampage in Berlin, attacking Jews and their businesses. It was just the start of what was to become the final solution.

    That this could happen in Australia shouldn't surprise anyone. The long standing "White Australia Policy" has never disappeared, and Australia is rife with supressed racism (well not supressed anymore).

    The White Australia Policy has been enforced for over a century, keeping non-nordic looking immigrants out of the country, and strictly limiting those who managed to get in. It's what keeps those refugees in god-forsaken outback centers for years.

    I even understand that naturalized citizens who were born elsewhere are NEVER given the full rights accorded a citizen who was born in Australia.

    Just look at the history of the Australian Aborigines, and you will see the true nature of Australian racism. Treated by many, even today as sub-human, they lost their lives, their land, their identity.

    Of course not every Aussie is racist, but the underlying racism has affected everyone, and I can understand how these feelings have surfaced today. But the Howard government has done little to help the situation, and has even refused to admit any crimes were committed against the "indigenous people" (am I PC enough?). Not too different from Japan denying it's crimes against humanity during WWII.

    In fact Howard represents the racists who still control the country. Australia's a good-ole-boy place, where a cabal of wealthy run it and serve themselves first.

    I'm really concerned about what will happen here in the next few years. If this continues as it probably will, I can see the Asians & middle easterners who live here packing up and leaving to a more friendly place (I'm sure NZ would welcome them).

    I hope this hurts Australian tourism because it's the only way they'll give a shit. Australia could end up more isolated than ever.

    The politicians are spending more time arguing about the effect on how Australia is "perceived" after these events than worrying about what it means to their own people, and how to deal with the underlying problems.

    Meanwhile the only actions they're taking is passing new ever more fascist laws to control the people. Like Australia DOESN'T ALREADY have enough laws to deal with riots? You need to rush new ones through without even thinking them through, and what the cost is to civil liberties? New Police powers? Overnight? Sure, why not remove some freedoms? After all, the police in this country are soooo ineffective, right?

    You can also blame Howard's eagerness to go to & remain in Iraq for the violence occuring now.

    skip, if australia was so racist they would never have let these characters into australia. as for me, hopefully i leave sydney in the next couple of weeks so i don't have to put up with them. goodnight and goodluck
