Syd Barrett

Do you know this man? If not, he was the original singer for Pink Floyd. He was with them for the first two albums; Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Saucer Full of Secrets. Due to psychological problems he stopped playing. He also had a few solo albums after he left the band.

His songs are completely different from any other songs I've ever heard. He writes about simple things, like a bike, gnomes, elephants and what not. On guitar it sometimes seems like he plays random notes. His songs are great. Everyone should try to find some.

Now Syd goes by Roger, which is his real name, and he wants to forget his musical career. He doesn't want to talk to any fans or anyone really. He just wants to be left alone. It's very sad. I think that you should try to find some of his albums because they are great.

 

Syd was the man, and was only with us for such a short time.

I would be amazed if someone didnt know who he was... Well if they even remotly liked pink floyd they should know... Piper is such a great album

 

I know plenty of people who have no idea who he is. I only know a few other people who listen to his music.

Hell yeh, Syd's the man! One of my favourite musicians of all time. The Piper is quite well known but his solo stuff is generally seen as inferior but I disagree. Dominoes, Baby Lemonade and Dark Globe are probably my favourite of his solo work.

Anyway, there are a lot of Syd fans here, myself included. He's one of my favorite artists.

Does anyone here have the Have You Got It Yet? series?

 

I can't get over the innocence of his music. He writes about the things he loves. He doesn't try for a popular sound. He's really pure. You can tell from his work that he is a bit off. But that only makes me wonder about him even more. I only know a handful of people my age who knows who he is. I think its like seven people. I find it sad that he only wants to be left alone now, but It is his wishes. I think that more people should listen to him. I like his solo albums just as much as Piper, maybe more. The songs I really like are Baby Lemonade, Effervescing Elephant, Bob Dylan Blues, Gigolo Aunt, Wined and Dined, and pretty much everything else. I will never tire of his music. My favorite songs of his are Here I Go, Love You, Apples and Oranges, Jugband Blues, The Gnome, Candy and a Currant Bun, Vegetable Man, Two of a Kind, Lucifer Sam, Interstellar Overdrive, Terrapin, Dark Globe, Paintbox, and more...

There's quite a few of those wannabe-hippie Pink Floyd "fans" where I live, but none of them knew who Syd Barrett was before I informed them, and they can't stand his music, after listening to only 2 or 3 songs... ...

I like vegetable man and scream thy last scream too, but I wouldnt consider those solo songs, they are pink floyd tunes.
