Anyone else into them? I don't know where to start but Swans are genius. Through their many musical phases, I don't think they've made a bad album and that includes "The Burning World." I got to see them twice during this current reunion, which is coming to a close and I can say that they are the most intense live band I've seen in terms of volume and relentlessness. I remember them turning off all the ceiling fans, leaving the room filled with heat and the LOUD vibrations of the music. And I could feel the vibrations throughout the entirety of my body. The first time I saw them, I was left in a trance where I felt complete ego loss, without any substances. That's nothing like anything I've seen before.

They're one of those bands that I know are highly rated but I never really got around to listening to,except for one track which was posted here on Hip,which I liked.Don't they have a rep for being "Difficult".I'm lazy when it comes to listening to music sometimes.Could you post something representative here in this thread?

It's hard to pick anything that represents them since they've changed their sound a bunch of times. Swans can be difficult for some as their songs have a lot of repetition. Their later albums are certainly not for people with short attention spans, very much in tuned with stuff like Can and Faust. Their earlier albums are disturbing and are more brutal than most metal. Their middle period has some of their best work and their sound was somewhere between neo-folk and darkwave. "Children of God", "The Great Annihilator" and "The Seer" are all good albums to start with.
