We are all fishes who've forsaken our tails,
tadpoles to frogs from the womb to the land
gill into lung when we break from the water,
and as we lay anchor fin into hand.

    The greeks thought the stars
were just holes in the sky,
    tears in the fabric
    torn to tease eyes,

    but the whales always knew
that to find their way home
    they could navigate swifly
    with the star sparkled dome.

I thank the chinese who invented the noodle,
has it or the compass had more
of an impact on man on
    the perilous shores of life?

    When fishes grow wings
    evolution will rest, sit
back in her chair and take a good laugh
seeing the mirth in her wit.

Star fish are sky fish in the night
of winged trout that glide and swim
and wander about silent and smooth in their flight
swift and bold skimmers of oceanless nights.

With chemical patterns that react with
prismical light, all born of stars
in the first throes of bang and boom,
see it as light through the cell bars.

The lines are equal to those of the
    radiation from space and beyond
and I just know there are starships
out there to beckon us home

the pieces that they have lost
in the black holes, the whirlpools
    into which the fishies are
    devoured in eager schools

    they will learn beyond teaching
    the breadth of the sun
and fuse until the difference is
    none.

Have you guys looked into the myths of the Nommo from the Dogon tribes of Mali? Its fucking crazy. Supposedly the Nommo are amphibious gods that were sent to the Dogon from Syrius c, which so far astrologers don't know about. Possibly the spaceship? Well that's kind of the inspiration for this... wierd, sorry.

Actually, yes… what I find so fascinating about the Dogon is that they knew a white dwarf was in orbit to Sirius before modern astronomers discovered that. Unfortunately, there’s a really good rebuttal of their myth…

I do like it, but I'll admit, I wish you'd kept the rhythm and rhyme from the first stanza for the whole poem. It was perfect, for the subject, and flowed really well.

Alas I tryed, but the words just wouldn't meld that way. Sometimes you just have to let nature take its course. My next homework assignment?

"I thank the Chinese who invented the noodle"

    haha

it kept my attention for such a long poem. i love how you're just you, not some juxtaposing high-and-mighty shit-spewer like some poets... you're not too serious and you're great because of that

Life needs to be as fun as we can make it. Even serious things have a lighter side.
Actually that gets me in trouble more than anything....oh well, someone has to break the ice.

That is too flattering. Jest to a certain point my friend, and spare my soul for the late night comedy skits.

What makes you think I jest? Many forum poets have adorned my walls... OneUndone, Firebelle, KillAllArtists... Now you will be inducted to the wall of fame.

He's not joking, Eternal...he really is that special :) As for the poem, I was sure I had posted to tell you how brilliant this was...I will look for my previous post and if it proves lost then I will reply again...I loved the bit about the whale, the whole lot of imagery about the domed sky full of sparkles and things (I can't quote exactly). It made me think of the world as an enchanting, glittery snow dome you could just tip upside down and...magic! X
