My eldest son went on his first school camp this weekend... and came back with bad sunburn... so much that we took him to the local A&E for them to do something about the blisters... I am seriously pissed when you put a child into the professional care of somebody and they don't do their fucking job properly... I mean... we're talking about a bunch of 9 year olds here... they are not going to remember to regularly apply sun protection, especially when doing water based activities (as they were apparantly doing on saturday) which will only serve to increase the effects of the sun... Seriously fucking pissed here... Fly...
they are horibble like that but tis not the teachers fault they are legally NOT aloud to put it on them, kids are aloud to carry it with them and they should have reminded him but they are aloud to which is bollocks, all i seuugest u do is there are these new beads out called uv beads and the child wears them and when they change colour that when u have to apply sun block, you could try them. its crap about ur boy though i hope hes ok now though
He got most badly burned on his ears... they had safety helmets on but they didn't cover his ears so he came back with some awful blisters... also burned on his feet which were not covered by the wetsuit... We asked the teachers before they went out that they would ensure to remind the kids to update their sun protection... I'm a teacher myself so I know the restrictions on what they can and can't do... but there was no reason for not ensuring that the kids weren't reminded regularly and checking that they did it... Thanks for the info about the beads... will keep an eye out for them... Fly...
thats really bad though, im training to be a teacher myself which is good. but i do think it is silly though you would have thought they would have said something, its not ur sons fault at all kids dont remember where they are let alone when to put sunblock on themselfs, i hope he is feeling better xxx
I didn't know teachers couldn't do that. When my son was at pre-school in the UK the teachers there had to put the sunscreen on as the kids (he was 2) couldn't do it themselves. I don't think the laws are so strict here though (Portugal). I wouldn't be impressed if my son got sunburnt though, I'd be asking the school some serious questions I think.
