take some tylenol for the pain. Drink lots of water. Apply aloe vera gel to the burn then lay on the least burnt area of your skin while naked and read or watch tv. Later on, you could have a cool bath with some oatmeal in it... afterwards lotion up like hell.

If you have sun poisoning, you would know already because you would be vomiting everywhere, so at least be happy that you don't have that.

As for being less pale and sickly looking... i hear ya. Fake tanners have come a long way... one kind that i know of has a bronzer in it so you can tell where you've put it (really cuts down of streaks). Also there are all those daily moisterizers that have a tint of tanner in them... i use one of those almost every day... i don't look "tanned" or "orange" but I do look less glow in the dark white.

My grandma also used to put Vinegar in the tub with me when I was burnt... think it had something to do with "sucking the pain out". Don't know if it really medically works or only works if your Grandma does it... you know how that goes... grandma medicine works best. You could give it a shot though!

As for the Oatmeal... i usually put a couple cups in. I wrap them in cheese cloth first though. They float/sink in the tub with me, and I squeeze them a lot to get all of the "white stuff" out of it.. i think its the creamy white stuff that actually helps, not the oatmeal flakes itself.

Yes, Vinegar works! I always apply vinegar to a cloth and rub it all over! Also if you steep some tea bags(a bunch of them) Then take the actual tes bags any put them where you realy hurt. That also works well especially on your face if that is fried to a crisp too!!

I know it really suckes to be sunburned, but you may have a nice tan afterwards!! hang In there!! :)

i usually don't even get a tan afterwards, i just suffer through the bullshit and they come out as pasty as i was before.

thanks for the tips. i've tried most of them in the past and have found none of them work for me, unfortunately. I'll try the oatmeal thing your way though :) thanks!

I burn really bad, too. And then I'm just covered with freckles, and still as white as a sheet. The one thing that sticks out in your first post, to my mind, is that you were using sunblock and burned anyway.... I can't use certain sunblocks, it burns my skin worse than the sun does. Are you certain you aren't experiencing chemical sensitivity rather than sunburn??? The ingredients that do it the worst for me are "fragrance" and PABA. I have to use unscented, PABA-free sunblock instead.

hmmm maybe your right. The one i used was PABA free. I don't usually have any problems with scented lotions or anything......but i have been known to have sensitive skin to certain products. How do i go about finding out which sunblocks are okay for my skin without roasting again?

Was it old sunblock? I find the expiry dates always rub off and I have no idea how effective it will be...

I got a bad burn on my left arm yesterday from having it out the car window all day while I was yard-saling. So now I'm pale on my right arm and red on my left. :p

sunburns do suck, I burn easily too. I use a pretty strong spf, + I try to stay in the shade as much as I can... I still cook. Try getting some aloe vera cream or aloe vera gel at the drug store, it does WONDERS for good burns.

Burts Bee's Carrot lotion helps me when I get burnt....it also helps keep me from peeling so badly. Usually I don't get in the sun much though, as skin cancer seems to run in our family. I'd rather look pale anyday than have skin cancer and be wrinkly prematurely.

Okay. I got it for you. My Mother-In-Law from my 1st wife gave me this magical cure. You need about two trays of ice cubes, and a cup of white vinegar, and two cups COLD water. Soak a clean washcloth fo a few seconds in the icewater/vinegar mix. Apply the washcloth to the effected area. (Where you're "burned".) Notice how HOT the cloth is when removed? It's like it SUCKS out the burn and removes the sting. Try for yourself.

Thank GOD you posted that Matt. THANK YOU THATNK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANKYOU!!!! :D I was at the beach today for 4 hours and now I resemble a lobster too much for my own comfort...:& <<<That's seriously what I look like right now...
I didn't bother too much with the sunscreen on my front half, but I coated my back in the stuff. I looked like a ghost....yet tonight, I am hurting bad. I burned all over, even my back got a burn. And it ITCHES like hell. That's the worst part....I don't care about the "burning," it's the itching. I tried to sit on my hands not to scratch it, yet I actually JUMPED out of my chair just now and went bonkers....I grabbed 2 handfulls of Glazal base cream and coated my back in it, which has appeared to temorarily help, but I am sure as hell is hot that I'm going to be mixing that up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

skipping on the lotion is by far the worst thing you could do....especially for 4 hours! You're crazy!!! usually 15 mins is all it takes to get a bad burn....and if you had a UV forecast anywhere near the 9 i had on saturday, you went out asking for it. crazy lady you are, miss barefoot ;) :p

I invested in some SPF 50 coppertone Spectra 3 (i think thats what it's called) for the beach this weekend. It was pretty expensive but well worth it. No burn, and i'm slowly developing a subtle tan. Good enough for me. Skin cancer is no disease i'd like to encounter. (though i'm sure i will, as i've already had irreversible damage done to my skin in the past) Going out in the sun without lotion these days is a death sentence, if you ask me.

yes, lucy, i am aware i was quite the idiot for doing what I have done :p
Today when we went, I covered myself every half hour in dd's sunscreen and barely got burnt at all. The only place that I did, was on my upper thigh, and I have not one clue how that happened. We will be "beaching" for the next month here, so I am definately going to be coating myself in sunscreen from here on in.

One question for you: is it still possible to tan with a sunscreen? I mean, I would like some color, but I really don't want to burn. I'd use a fake tanner, but my budget really doesn't allow for that....to invest in a good one that doesn't turn me into a streaky carrot anyway.

Do you know that sunblock SPF has to do with how many minutes you can be in the sun before you have to reapply. No matter what the sunblock says, ALL sunblocks above 35 still rate as a 35. Example: 15 SPF - reapply every 15 minutes, 35 SPF - reapply every 35 min, 55 SPF - reapply every 35 minutes. I know this doesn't help for this sunburn...but maybe it will help prevent them in the future.

really?!? I had no idea. I eventually got an SPF 50 and didn't get burned at all. I reapply every hour as needed and after swimming and nothing happened. The other ones i apply CONSTANTLY and i still get burned. I dont know what the deal is but im glad i found something that works; i've been obsessed with the beach all summer! :)
