There used to be some countries that had laws saying that the penalty for attempting suicide was death. Don't know if any country still has that in place though.
suicide is a personal descision something that theyre family should interfere with, not the government
WEll, technically, suicide IS murder... But I don't think death would be the right punishment. Man, this is confusing...
Hello fellow Americans. In Great Britain(God save our Majesty the Queen) the bill against suicide was lifted in 1969. From that year, it no longer became illegal to kill yourself. HOWEVER, it is against the law to jump off of a bridge in London which can be punishable by a Fine. Also any suicide attempt that puts the public in immediate danger, Ie, blowing yourself up in Mcdonalds or the highstreet. It is however illegal to assist someone in commiting suicide. That is why many people who wish to get help in dying, go to Europe and it can be done legally. They take the person into a room which has a bed and a chair. The nominated person to assist in suicide, empties out a few grams of arsenic into a hot cup of tea or coffee. The beverage is then given to the client but it is the clients choice to drink it. If they decide not to, then the contents are destroyed. If they decide to drink, they are quickly placed into the bed, where they simply die in the bed. Moments later the relatives are informed and the body is embalmed and put into a coffin.
british don't consider themselves european? interesting.... so, for thsoe places where suicide is illegal, if you attempt suicide do you go to jail?
In most life insurance policies there is no pay off to the beneficiaries if the policy holder commits suicide.
I may be wrong, but I believe that an unsucessful suicide attempt will get you charged with attempted murder. This may vary from state to state.
It's not so much the act of committing suicide that's illegal, it's the attempt to do so. It's illegal so that you can be ordered to be committed at a mental institution when you try and fail.
Well, it's pretty obvious when you're barely breathing and have an empty pill bottle lying next to you...or you're floating unconscious in a pool of your own blood with gaping slits on your wrists...or you're lying on the floor with a chair tumped over next to you and a rope around your neck...lol.
IF youre almost dead then yea its pretty obvious, othervise noone will ever know Edit: ....and when I think about it again.. where is the line man? you could even... die failing heh
In my personal opinion, I think that any act of killing someone (whether murder or suicide) shouldn't be punished by a term in jail or a fine... they should really be getting help for their problems instead, and I think that should be supplied by the government.
I don't think this is true, at least not in the Netherlands. Yes we ahve euthanasia, but it is only when someone is physicly suffering and there is no real possibility that the suffering will end, in any other way than death.
Attempted suicide is illegal and the punishment is life. (By which I don't mean that life is pain etc., just that it is for someone attempting suicide.)
