I've been vegetarian for a while, and this is the first time a problem like this has happened. I just started attending university about a month ago, and today in the cafe i helped myself to some potatoes. Little did i know they were cooked in today's breakfast sausage + bacon fat. i've been vomiting for a little while, and i feel terrible. I should have asked before i put them on my plate but i would of never suspected potatoes. What are some things i can do to make me feel a little better?

You may want to fast until it gets out of your system and you feel better. Just drink juice for a day or so, so that your colon can work on getting the animal grease out and won't be overworked by extra food on top of that. Take some fiber too.

The same thing happened to me at my school- except they were cooked in butter. I had the most terrible stomach pains ever.

as if my life isn't unlucky enough. Vegetarian Chow mein should not have chicken in it. I even called to make sure it wasn't cooked with any chicken stalk, or worchestier sauce or any types of animal sauces(im vegetarian, not vegan as of now). But sure enough i ended up with chicken lo mein. Luckily i saw hte chicken early enough, but not before taking a few bites of the greasy what i thought was vegetable broth souplike stuff. Im disgusted and im fed up. Though they did seem very evry sympathetic, and have credited me a free meal. But that's the least they could do lol.

I made CLOSE friends with a kitchen guy.
He was also veg, although a bit more laid back than I am (eggs), and i'd ask him what was safe.
All it cost me was a pair of SCI tickets and a bowl of green love.
Could you chat with the person in charge of the cafe and ask for ingredients lists?
Is this a single kitchen deal or are there options, including the surrounding community?

where are you? your IP is Canada?

I have a rule...if I eat anything with meat extracts in it, it's ok as long as I didn't know. That way I needn't feel too guilty for making a mistake.

Strangely enough, a similar thing happened to me at a party last week. I helped myself to some small potatoes from the buffet, and I was really enjoying them untill someone decided to tell me that they were cooked in goose fat.

Whether they actually were or not, I don't know. But I left what I had left. What kind of barbaric people harm geese just to cook potatoes, anyway?!
