From another site, not this. But brilliantly written (if a tad wordy) and definitely food for thought regarding what is tolerated and what isn't on HipForums.

    What do you think?

Is this overly wrought thinking like a nanny state

    or

a peaceful solution to trolls and spammers?

Everything seems pretty in line with the guidelines hipforums had always had

Except the real name thing, please don't do that.

Difficult to fully implement on here.
But yes those that keep returning once banned is a problem.
I keep watching for SPAM, whenever I am here.

Well I don't want real names... but the other items seem logical in these days of spammers and trolls.

I'm not in a rush to change the rules, just want to discuss the issue.

First problem. "Real" facts depend on the source. The source must be a reputable source.
Shall we delete "facts" or posts that come from questionable sources, and what are the questionable sources?
    Great!
    No actual names needed.
We have a current user who puts certain words in triple parenthesis.
I assume this person should be banned.
    Good.
Good idea, but many times our threads go off topic and evolve into interesting asides.
    Good in theory.

    The rest looks pretty good.

Nanny state imo. The real names thing is awful; I'd quit first. The triple bracket thing doesn't bother me; it lets me know immediately to take this person's post with a grain of salt. The "all forms of discrimination (or posts that could be interpreted as such)" is kinda scary. Would we get to vote for who does the interpreting? Also, "As per our policy on removing content, we will only remove comments that don’t violate these standards in exceptional circumstances" [italics my own] is confusing. What are "exceptional circumstances"?

I think Hip has it about right, don't put us through the meat grinder so we all come out looking the same.

Yeah, been involved in dozens of forums the last two and a half decades, most of them died, and they all died for the same reasons, the most obvious being over moderation

I'm pretty comfortable here. I've had problems on other forums though. I'd say that the forum here is ok.

    Antisemitic posts don't bother you?

Would you allow all antisemitic posts, or would you draw the line somewhere?

People in Canada should be allowed to speak openly with other people in Canada about trading and sending cannabis within the guidelines of the Canadian law is this legal up here and we are allowed to give each other an ounce anytime we want

Totally agree about that. But how do we solve the problem of returning trolls?????

What I mean is if all they are doing is talking antisemitic nonsense then I take that as an opportunity to respond. I do get a kick out of calling out sorry assholes. Someone who is actively supporting violence directed at Jews, or anyone for that matter, is a different thing entirely; Hip would be justified in banning their sorry asses.

I understand, but you feel that just posting antisemitic logos, pictures, or symbols is not supporting antisemitism?

What I feel is unimportant. I try to think things through rather than to act on my feelings. In my time on Hip I haven't seen that prejudice has been a big problem. Troublemakers of that sort tend not to last long. Of course, you and most of the other regular posters have been here longer than I have so you may have a broader perspective.

I stumbled on Hip a few years ago when Googling hippie clothes. After I read a few posts, none of which had anything to do with clothing, I decided to join and I've been logged on nearly every day since then. I stayed because I like the atmosphere. Don't change our forums to solve problems we don't have, please.

I totally agree with you Vanilla.
And if over moderation didn't finish them off.
    Then boredom did!
