Do you think we need the subcats back again? I was thinking of at least indoor, outdoor, your grow as being a few we need. But you guys decide.

Skip, subcats make the treads disappear, espescially when you work the site when your memory has been 'temporarily' blocked. Having the whole discussion in front of you makes it directly apparent where you were last and pick up from there. With subcats you have to remember where you were working ( and why). Furthermore, it seemed, to me anyhow, that in any subcat the threads drifted away from the subject soon enough and often degenerated into exchanges of specific, jargon loaded private talk. To illustrate what I mean: review the "Sugershack" tread on the old site.

Well that's why I'm suggesting fewer categories. Categories by function is more logical. So a Grow Diary forum might be a good one, and maybe a technical one for those who are deep into yield or unusual conditions or whatever.

That should make it easier to find. Do you want a plant photo forum? I prefer the gallery since ppl can comment there too.

I think 4 catagories would be great, consisting of beginners, advanced, show your grow, and organics.Thats my 4 sense on the matter!

I have to agree with mean. seperating it into subcategories makes it easier to navigate when troubleshooting.

    organics/hydro/indoor/outdoor/greenhouse /pests /diseases/ problems/growrooms/ micro-cabinets/aeroponics/ sexing/ breeding/ cloning/organic ferts/chem ferts.

If your coming with a problem your gonna know which of these it falls under 9 times outta 10.

    NAMASTE BROTHER SKIP

Subcategoris would be a great help for many here. There have been so many repeated threads that this would help a member or guest find there way more better. There has been a few airy threads do to this not being so.The old way seemed to help so many out and cut down on repeated threads.

i totally agree i am a first time grower and also a virgin to forums but i ahve many questions to ask and think it would be better and easier for me to pick a particular forom to ask them in.and also it would be nice to have an irc so i could get instant responses.it seems there are more people on this forum at one time than any other,it would very benifishal for ppl in my position.thnx

Im just new to the grow phase of my life and to this site. I have lots of questions and the answers are probably already posted somewhere by someone else asking.I have found that with some of the car club sites i belong to that after a while people will stop answering some of the basic questions people have because they already have over and over.

Say MeanGreen, hope you're amenable to reconsider your decision to not return here. I mean, that's so final! Remember the reorg of this site and Skip asking whether we'd want subcats or not? In following the current debate and the ways in which the newbe questions keep being interspersed in the growreports of some of the more experienced growers I keep thinking that organizing this forum here into three main subcats might help: one being the "GrowReports" where people like you, LuMpY, GuySmiley just post the method and particulars and progress of their current grow and exchange interesting details, variations, curious findings and what not. If that's done with any degree of explicitness, like posting the germinating sequence and materials, the veg cycle with the pot sizes, soil type, watering & fert schedule and light types and intensities then anyone coming into a: second category like "Newbe questions" can be right away referred to such grow report detailing the particular aspect of such question(s). And you'd then maybe compliment it by a third cat with nothing but info...call it "Sources and Links" and anyone who has found good info to any question, (like http://greenmanspage.com/guides/lighting.html for example which gave me all details to any question about lighting type, intensities and whatnot!) can post the links/info sources there and will steer the questioneer directly to the answers.
I think it is easier to give an answer like "do research" then to say "go here or there for your research". I feel that such a reorganization will help people like dirty worms more directly and it'll circumvent the problem of sending away people who come here with questions. This is a forum for all comers, right? It's sort of like teaching someone who goes to school to learn something nothing more then to teach him to go to school!
Just some thoughts. I'll copy this and post it to the SubCat thread as well. b1
