Does anyone else here sit at work all day feeling like they're in a cage? Like they waste 8 hours a day doing something they don't like to do just because it puts a little money in your pocket? I do.
And I'm proposing we start some sort of sub-culture company where we could work with the type of people we want to and control our own company instead of being told what to do. I for one ran a whole warehouse from 17-20 yrs old, and now (23) I head the whole data team at my online catalog company. So I know a little about operations. Some of you must have a good heads on your shoulders in other areas. Honestly I want to get together with some people and figure out a way to make some money doing something we want to do. This place would be so cool to work for. We could even smoke weed in the building. As long as we get our work done, nothing would matter. Why not have a little fun at work, when you have to spend 8 hours a day there? Why does it have to be something you hate doing? I don't hate my job that much, but I do feel like i'm in a cage and should be doing something else on my own.... anyone else? I brought this up with some of my buddies and we're already putting some ideas together. We may even start a web-designing company, where all we do is play music, smoke, or whatever while designing websites together... We usually come up with our best ideas when we smoke anyway... cool way to spend those dreaded 8 hours a day huh? anyone interested in getting out of that cage? Or putting some ideas together to start a buisiness that pertains to the sub-culture?

I work at a non-profit, make decent money and develop my own program within the non-profit. Weeks can go by without my boss checking in with me. I actually would like a little more supervisory control over me. Try working as a director in a non-profit. It is a great start to a new career path.

Sounds good, but I have no computer knowledge, I am taking a computer class this summer though. If you think of something else I might be able to help with let me know.

This company doesn't have to be in the computer-related busniess. There's many opportunities out there... see:

    PM reply to Ginge....
It's just been kind of an on-going idea with my friends and I. We're all pretty bright people with different talents, and tired of doing what we're doing right now. We have some business ideas but we're not exactly sure what we're gonna go for. We may even just buy a building in a few years and turn it into the first weed lounge in the country... I know we can't let people smoke in there, but we'd have a secret back room to smoke and chill in for friends and safe regulars, and we'd decorate the place to kind of promote herb.. The name would be "420 Lounge". We have a lot of ideas on the plate right now. I posted that thread to see if anyone else is feeling the same way and wants to talk or has started up a business for the same reasons... I'll keep in touch with you and let you know the progress... ;) peace

Cool like they did during prohibition!

Well I have a few business ideas that I occasionally plan out, but I thought I'd just save them until I graduated college.

I don't have my notebook right now, and I have horrible memory, but if you're interested let me know!

Have a look at my world without money thread and see what you think. Maybe we could start designing the software/hardware for that? I would love to be involved but at the moment am more of a linguist than a computer bof. Would love to learn though and would be willing to go to university specifically to learn what I needed to know (ABB at A-level). I've never felt inspired to go to uni before though I've tried and failed due to lack of inspiration. Am currently doing barwork but will soon be teaching French for a living. I don't think that will make me feel like I'm in a cage but I would definately love to smoke weed while teaching... if anyone wants to learn I'd do it for free cos I have enough money to get by. You'd just have to work to my schedule.

Hey Andy, I'm a lot like you as far as being a linguist goes! Though my goal is to teach English in Japan.

If it all works out. I have to wait a year or so.

But I'm really interested in this sub-culture company. Keep us posted! :)

Wow that is so cool, it seems most of the people I meet nowadays have the same interests, there's a guy that I'm cool with who started the Linguistics Club on our campus I can't wait to get into that, gotta wait until the fall though, and I've always been pretty interested in that kinda thing, it's a part of my major, although I'm concentrating in writing!

Nice to know you're interested in that!

i love your idea... i think it's sorta shocking that people are forced to spend so much of our time doing something we don't like,,, just to make 'ends meet'... let me know when you're ready to go international and i'll spearhead the company in Scotland....

    or canada if i'm home

    - blessed be

Yeah! Well, my major is Communications and my minor is Psychology, so I haven't really taken any true linguistics classes (aside from Ling 101 four years ago), but as far as what I want to do, a Com degree (especially with an emphasis in Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication) goes a long way. And I used to be an English minor before I switched to Psych. In Japan, you only need a BS or a BA to teach. Well, to teach English. I don't know about any other subject.

Rashaad (beachbum7) is teaching English in Japan now, so he's my mentor of sorts. He doesn't know it yet, though. LOL

I never knew misterrain, but that's awesome! I didn't know there were so many people around here interested in doing that. :) It's encouraging!

    where about, b.s.?

I am thinking of starting a worldcinema-videostore in my city, a rather big city in the netherlands, and thought before that it would be so nice if you could combine our (in)famous coffeshops with a videostore. You'd go there for a video and start some conversation with the people there and then decide to stay there, or the other way around. Or yoiu watch a film there with a group smoking a joint. Do you think there is room for this in the building?

    Why is it always web-design?

i dont get it, is there such a high demand for more and more websites, why not get a real job?

Why do you people feel the constant need to smoke weed 24/7 in or out of work, are you that dependent on it?

I doubt anybody would eveb sponser that kinda company, especially if you got illeagal activities going on. Get real if you dont like your job take it up with your boss
