Stupid Flat Earther Kills Himself In Homemade Rocket

'Mad Mike' Hughes went splat trying to prove the earth was flat.

 

Probably the beginning of the end of the flat earth movement

 

Oh wow! That guy was a potential client of the company I work for. A long time ago, he sent us some photographs of what he wanted done. And I recognize the name, and his rocket from the photos he sent us. The project never happened though.

 

And it never will.

 

All he had to fucking do was hop on a safe plane to Australia and take a picture of the north star Polaris. Which would be totally possible on a flat earth, thus proving a flat earth.

 

This statement sounds like something from 1938

 

Died on his noble quest for the truth.

Proving this was important? Why? What does it matter? I don’t believe the earth is flat, round or pear shaped.

 

Should we roll his body off the edge of the Earth like we simply do with radioactive waste, risen seawater and human waste?

We make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon and the stars as if we were villains by necessity, fools by heavenly compulsion.

 

It is awful that he died, I do wonder if he had a death wish. He must have known, doing what he was doing had its huge risks. This was so important to him that it didn’t matter that he could die in the effort. I don’t understand why this was so important to him. I can’t comprehend it. I don’t understand what he was thinking, or how proving this would change people’s life, or his life. What difference does this make how earth is shaped?

 

Probably something to do with how he perceived gravity (if he even believed in it) worked. I think the flat earthers who try to perform experiments genuinely think they can establish a different paradigm to mainstream science.

 

The shape of Earth is important to aviation regarding intercontinental flight paths. If Earth was flat, you could fly a straight line from New York City to Tokyo, but instead they fly in an upward arc up and around the North Pole to get from point A to point B in the shortest distance.
