I don't understand how people could be so materialistic. One of the more stressful things in my life right now is trying to get all this fucking stuff organized so I can move. I can't even think about wanting any new material things because the ones I already do have are enough of a problem as it is. I'm kind of thinking that I should just throw everything away.

    So why don't you?

You must not own a TV, or you have never watched it. People are conditioned to believe that stuff = happiness, and we all crave happiness. Further, when you acquire new stuff or resources, your brain releases stimulating chemicals, essentially giving you a high when you get something, and that reaffirms their conditioning.

There's nothing wrong with wanting or having lots of stuff, not really, but if you are attached to that stuff, you will suffer. And if your desire for more stuff is strong enough, you will make others suffer.

Totally understand your frustration. I just moved a few weeks ago and it was pure hell. Let alone, it was in Florida heat. LOL.

I do find that I have accumulated a ton of stuff, it just happens over time. Try to purge as much as you can. Donate, donate, donate. I have brought in items to work and then let people take what they want. AMVETS, Goodwill, Salvation Army, NKF, are all great places to donate. I am not the tag sale having type of girl.

Purging material items is therapeutic. Just do it. :) and good luck :peace:

I like stuff. I use stuff. I desire stuff. I must not be a like minded hippy. Oh gee.

I'm very materialistic. I like things. I like collecting things.

If you throw that stuff away, you are no better than the "materialistic" people you scorn. Give it away, maybe someone else will appreciate what you do not want.

I used to have quite a bit of stuff. I had an epiphany, sold it all, and moved away. Best thing I ever did. For a while, all I owned was what I wore and I could fit in my backpack (minus some books I left in storage) and it was truly liberating.

I have since accumulated some more stuff after semi-settling down, but I have no problem giving things away, apart from three items that I am, I must reluctantly admit, somewhat attached to.

For a few years, whenever someone said "I like your <insert item>" I would ask if they wanted it, and if they did, I gave it to them. Surprisingly, very few people said yes.

I name my computer files "Stuff" when I'm in a rush.

I've got about 28 stuff files, and I don't even know what's in most of em.
