This is my attempt to start a thread for students so post away, uni experiences, what course u doing? etc I'm doing Sociology and here's a a little halloween story from last year: remember to get a pumpkin! last year we had one called Penny it was short-lived and rested peacefully in the food waste bin in our kitchen for a month or so in student halls before we opened the bin and it emitted clouds of mould and it looked like there was actually a fallen cloud in the bin. Then we had to part with it, a sad moment in hall life all stories and chat welcome! thread away folk xxx
I got excited when I saw this and then realised I'm not a student anymore and felt old! I studied sociology too. My halloweenish story: It was the beginning of November and it had snowed ridiculously early. All the students came out into the court and built a big snowman. All except me and a couple of mates who'd decided to get drunk. Early in the morning, still drinking, we felt what else can you do when drunk at such a stupid hour, but read the Qur'an. Having established that there are no mentions of snowmen in the Qur'an, we decided that they were clearly abominations against the will of Allah and declared jihad on the snowman outside, which resulted in its untimely demise....
See this just goes to show that Oxford really is the better university! Minus one floppy haired boatie obviously
We did the usual, christmas tree out of beer cans, stealing traffic cones, stole the stuff police corden off areas with and blocked off peoples doors and the stairwells in halls, started firealarms in the middle of the nights, had fruit fights in the courtyard. I miss it I don't like having to be professional and grown up.
There's a university in Oxford now? Wow. I heard some of the former polys are quite good these days....
I did this kind of stuff in college, couple of years was enough for me Ok thats a lie, I wanted to go to uni but it got fucked up. Im glad it did though
The first thing I noticed was the smell, a mixture of sweat, dust and bins, the sink was overflowing with pots and pans which lay all over the kitchen tops, there was graffiti all over the fridge, a huge drift of rubbish backed up against the back of the sofa, which acted as a divide between living room and kitchen. There wasn't a patch of wall that didn't have a poster or part of a rock or skateboard magazine stuck to it. As I stood there looking around I noticed a cup on the floor which I decided to helpfully pick up, I'm very safety conscious. I quickly put it back after seeing it was placed there to hide a year old yoghurt.....my girlfriends face was a picture when I said, yeah I'll take the room, how much is it?
Mine's an ex poly :leaving: Not so long an ex, really, it was still Anglia Polytechnic up until a few years ago. So erm, experiences.. the plumber cracked a pipe when he was doing our bathroom, so water is now seeping through the hall floor. Getting downstairs intact requires a certain amount of gymnastics and expert timing. Plus our landlord's in hospital, so there's not much he can do until he gets out. I'm fighting a rearguard action with febreze, but it's only a matter of time...
It called itself Anglia Polytechnic University until 2005, but has in fact held university status since the early 90's, so longer than you might think....
I'm applying to: Brighton-Bsc Geography UWE Bristol-Bsc Geography and environmental management Cardiff-Bsc Marine Geography Sussex-Bsc Geography Bournemouth-Bsc Marine and coastal management I hope I'm applying for the right thing :leaving:
You can change.. a friend of mine changed over from Biology to Communications Studies (WHY?!).. although you have to repeat the first year, for obvious reasons..
