Has anyone had a stranger come up to you close in public and take a pic of you without asking? I've had it happen a few times, mostly at friendly venues such activism gatherings and festivals, the camera within a few feet of my face. Makes me feel a little nervous sometimes but it doesn't really bother me.

If its a photographer at an event, then it's not a big deal. They're trying to capture the event, and I take it as a compliment when they think I encompass the essence of what were all doing. As long as its a type of event I wouldn't mind endorsing. I went to a Tea Party protest a few years ago, and I don't think I'd be all to happy to see my photo in the paper.

Now if its a tourist, or just some bozo with a camera phone, then yea....it's a bit creepy.

    Just at events.

My brother had a Japanese tourist take a photo of him photocopying something while he was at a "take your kid to work day". My mom worked at City Hall and there are always busloads of asians touring our town for some reason.
It was comical, the guy peeked around the corner, brought his camera up to his face, clicked, and disappeared. :)

If you go anywhere that groupthink prevails, and your picture is taken, you deserve it.

I would never go to a protest, for instance, because most protesters are idiots that don't really know what they're protesting against, unless it's a specific thing perhaps. You're almost asking to be photographed when you go to something stupid like that.

I will probably always be annoyed by it. I am now kind of used that people at concerts (smaller as much as big ones) are more into filming the show with their phone and taking pics than actually experience the moment(s) for what they are. I just focus on what I find important and the people who seem to go for the concert for the same reasons but when someone keeps on whoring their camera in front of my face for a second too long I will tell them to stop or go somewhere else. And yes, since they are infiltrating and ruining my personal space and experience this is one of the few situations I may go too far in ridiculing their phonewhoring/telling them to get out of my space :p

Eh, I was curious and bored. It was at the beginning of the movement so I had no idea of what it really was. I associated it with the Boston Tea Party and decided to go check it out. It was a protest for the local tax hike the bastard of a mayor we had was implementing. It was actually a pretty cool thing. None of the crazy redneck shit a lot of people here associate the Tea Party with was going on. Just a buch of peacefully pissed off conservatives mad because our tax dollars was being used inappropriately. I went to an occupy thing some time later and didn't stay long because it was filled with arrogant, violent assholes.

I don't really give a shit if I was photographed either time....but I would have rather been photographed with the Tea Party. At least they were nice people.

they're breaking the law if they distribute such a photo, even gratis, without you're signing a release. of course seeking to enforce that law might be more trouble then it would be worth. might not even be desirable if you could. just saying, if a cop sees them doing it and is aware of this, they COULD find themselves facing some kind of punishment.

if its a stranger at a some kinda party we're all or our peoetry an song gigs when we're on stage ,thats ok,cos we're all takin' pics.but one day when i just walking up the street, the traffic was stopped at the lights and a guy took a pic me out off his window.that i did'nt like it made me feel uncomfortable and i could'nt stop him cos he just drove off when the lights changed again. i love taking pics myself, but i woukld never invade someones space an take a pic of a random stranger just out a simply manners an respect.if i wanted to,i'd ask the persons permission first.

I'm a cameraphobe. I would do anything in my power to either get out of the picture or to destroy the camera.

I worked with a guy from Somalia for a while. He truley believed that anyone who took his picture was trying to capture his soul. He would fuckin cut you open before he let you take a picture of him. one day i was using a device to measure sound decibles.....he thought it was a camera and he attacked me. knocked it out of my hand and took me to the ground. That dude was a trip lol
