https://phys.org/news/2021-10-strange-metal-state-high-temperature.html Strange metals are a new form of matter which has confused physicists. Among other things, it appears to be related to superconductivity, and this article describes the discovery that its related to thermodynamics. Normally matter transmits heat as both radiant energy and kinetic energy, but Strange Metals can entangle all of their electrons, making them behave more like waves than particles. Theoretically, if they can get a grip on the thermodynamics, they could produce cheap room temperature superconductors, just by tweaking the thermodynamics of some sort of metamaterial, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Other research along similar lines all implies the same thing, that thermodynamics are the issue, and its very likely they require new physics just as the article hints. All of this kind of research is related to AI and weapons research, and there's no telling when the other shoe will drop.
