My first post, so hello everyone! I've mainly been lurking up to this point, but it seems like a friendly place, so I might as well go for it! Also, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so please bear with me!

My grandmother and I were talking about when she was my age and a little older in the sixties and in passing she mentioned that when she was seventeen her boyfriend was sent to Vietnam. She said that even though they were thrilled to be reunited after he came home, he had become a man and she was still just a teenager. They ended up going their seperate ways in the end because they were just too different from his experiences.

I was struck by how tragic the story sounded to me, not because of lost love, but because of the lost innocence and youth. That theme remains in today's world and is still relevant. It touched me enough that I plan on (trying) to use that story to write a poem to for my English class.

I was wondering if anything similar to this had happened to anyone on here. If so, I would love to hear about it if anyone would happen to post. Or just any other stories about your lives. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I have a friend who once told me about being on the front lines and having to kill children; I asked him why they had to kill the children, and he told me that they had to kill the children because the viet Cong would strap bombs to their little bodies and send them out to where the American soldiers were, so they either killed the kids or got blown up themselves. Pretty chilling shit, and I don't like remembering that particular story, but I understand your curiosity.
