    Puppymills were discovered by me when I was 11, and totally got me started on animal rights.

    damn puppy mills. my dad told me never to buy a dog from one, always get one from a breeder, but i would get one from a puppy mill to save it.:(

    It's a nice thought, but if you actually buy a dog from a puppy mill (as opposed to adopting one that was rescued from a police raid on a mill, for example) you are just helping the mill stay in business. The $500 they get for that puppy will just help the mill buy more breeding dogs and cages, and the pet store will just replace the purchased puppy with another innocent puppy mill victim. So, this kind of 'rescue' is really self-defeating.
    If you would like to help give a puppy a second chance in life, the best place to go is actually your local animal shelter or rescue group. They have many dogs and puppies of all kinds who need good homes.
