Have you done it and why? I've personally never stood anyone up and I'm interested in understanding why some people do.

well one time this old guy who looked EXACTLY like the guy from Silence of the Lambs put who put the woman in the hole, just randomly started talking to me about how he wears rubber suits and corsets, and just all kinds of shit, this was at a drug store and he started to talk to me for 45 min just because i opened the door for him ( i was way too nice i couldnt find a place to stop the conversation) well anyway he asked for my name and number and told me he was staying at this motel (the scariest one in town) he told me his room number and asked me to meet him there that night and go shopping with him. this dude was like 50, i look like im 15. well the point of this is that i did not go, so i guess i stood him up. but i dont think i need to explain myself as to why.

sorry if that is not the kind of "stood up" you meant, but he did think i was going to meet him, at the time i was so stupid i couldnt say no even though i knew i wouldnt meet him. im not freaking crazy. i have never driven away from someone so fast in my life.

Well if you count that kind of thing, then yes I've stood up a few old men in my time. I was thinking more about standing up someone you care about, because I don't consider avoiding creeps bad. I feel for you.

I've been stood up. My friends stand me up all the time, arrive late, and other shitty things that unreliable people do. I dont understad it at all. I think its a shit thing to do to someone, so I dont do it

well, I've been stood up by a friend, but not by a date. A date doing that would seriously piss me off. And I'd never do it to someone - I'd do my damndest to get ahold of them to let them know I couldn't make the meeting or date or whatever. I think it's rude, inconsiderate and extremely disprespectful to not let someone know when you can't attend what you said you would. (there's a thread somewhere here in relationships called 'friendship maintenance' where I rant about this at length)

I've been stood up, but I've never done that to anyone else. It's mean. I don't know why people do it.

I don't know if it has to do with being nice because it isn't at all, you are better off just telling someone you arn't interested or whatever. There is nothing nice about lying, and that is a form of lying.

Well all i can say from experience is this is a common trick that a girl will pull.

Like I said, I've only stood up one really creepy old man, who later called and offered to pay me for sex. It was good that I ignored him. I certainly know a lot of girl friends have stood me up, more often than guys. I can't generalise but in my experience as well, girls are evil about it.
