A few times a year... this always seems to come and go my knees get so stiff that it hurts to bend them at all... and the past couple days have been one of those times. What kinda supplements can you take for stuff like that? I sound like a freaking 100 year old.
Hmm, stiff knees... I don't know what supplements but I know heat would probably help, they have those ice/hot things you can wrap around your knees... But as for supplements, I am not too sure... Hope they feel better..
Thanks... I'm always falling apart. Haha... I know there is something pressed rat was talking about before... but I can't remember what it is.... that might work....
how is your ankle and hip doing? knee problems generally stem from those 2 joints. is it inflammatory? if ya already taking fish oils, i've read that Glucosamine and chondroitin + MSM works. but i've also read Glucosamine and chondroitin really didn't do much at all. ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, but quite costly when ya buy in pill form, i think powder form too...at least for the amount you'd need to use to notice any difference.
Since I was about 14 my knee's have always cracked when I bend them back too far. I've always put it down as I just may have arthritis when I'm older or something. Try some dencorub or something like mystical_shroom suggested..
My knees hurt from time to time, usually one at a time and it's inflamatory. It happened more frequently when I was in highschool, but that's the last time I remember it happening. Right now the back of my right knee kinda hurts, it has been hurting since Dec 25th, I went partying a little too hard and now it comes and it goes. I think it gets a bit swollen, but is never painful enough to make me go to the doctor.
you should take a physio ball class, possibly through a local university as I am doing. Or read up on that at least, because it is an amazing way to stretch all the joints, muscles, etc. and gain lots of flexibility. Plus you learn a lot about your body and how to better treat it. I had a similar problem with my right knee, and as Fitzy said, it stemmed from the hip and ran down to the knee and sometimes all the way down to the shin, for over a week. Mine was because I was kicking a ball really really high for a bunch of kids I work with and I likely pulled something on one of the kicks..or the stress of repeated motion. Anywho, through the class I figured out specifically what was up, how bad it was, what to do and even found my body was on its way to recovery. So that is my two cents.
Not to get off topic, but you JUST changed your sig pic didn't you. one pic before I posted and after posting and going back to the thread, a new pic was staring back at me!
i'm your girl supplements: -beta carotene, vitamins C and E, selenium -boron -vitamin B6 -niacin -sulfate -chondroitin sulfate -bromelain in general, with hot and cold packs, use cold if theres inflammation, use hot if theres not. Exercise. The worst thing you can do is not move your knees. You dont have to go running, thats high impact on your joints, but you can try swimming, or yoga. And if it really bothers you, you can go to PT. Fish oil is good, but, i know you also take other meds, or something. And You should watch what you mix together, because fish oil thins the blood. If you take any other kind of pain relievers or other things, you should talk to your doctor first, because you do not want your blood to be too thin. enjoy, lol.
It sounds like tendinitis. Use an NSAID like aspirin. Several of the supplements on here listed will have several beneficial effects as well. Light on knee (NO RUNNING!) exercise for your knees will also be beneficial. If it doesn't improve, you may want to see a doctor because you will likely need an injection of a corticosteroid. I like playing doctor.

I'd recommend MSM/Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I'm pretty overweight, and it helps with the knee/ankle pain I get from that. It cannot, however, help the fact that I'm flat-footed. That's where my weight really hurts me.
I'm defiantly gonna look into some of those things. Fitz you asked about ankles? My ankles are very weak and give out all the time. That could be related to my knees? and mystical shroom... haha i do not know... was thinking the same thing....
of course your ankles effect your knees. the whole kinetic chain...if they are weak they could be forcing your knee to do more than it should. ankle - mobility knee - stability hip - mobility lumbar region - stability - this is where yoga/pilates goes wrong and people think they need mobility here, when they need more stability etc...all the way on up to shoulders, which is a very very complicated joint this is the way the body keeps safe. it compensates for areas that do not work or have a dysfunction. its much more complex than i just wrote. however, the ankle joint is very important. and if its weak, then other areas such as your knee and so on up hte chain are going to compensate for that weakness.
I know nothing about aching joints and wish I could help. All I can say is...I know you can get through it like you do everything else so well.
