It was designed to evolve, to live, and to breathe like the people that it governs. It is, ingeniously, and perhaps conversely, resilient enough to change with the times in order to meet the challenges of its third century and rigid enough to preserve the ideals that inspired its original articles and amendments. As long as we are willing to put in the work required to defend and nurture this remarkable invention of our forefathers, then I believe with all my heart that it will continue to thrive for generations to come. Without our active participation, however, the future is far from certain. For without the lifeblood of the human spirit even the greatest documents produced by humankind are only words on paper or parchment, destined to yellow and crack and eventually crumble to dust. Yours for the motherfuckin’ revolution, Steve Earle I used to listen to the radio And I don’t guess they’re listenin’ to me no more They talk too much but that’s okay I don’t understand a single word they say Piss and moan about the immigrants But don’t say nothin’ about the president A democracy don’t work that way I can say anything I wanna say So fuck the FCC Fuck the FBI Fuck the CIA Livin’ in the motherfuckin’ USA People tell me that I’m paranoid And I admit I’m gettin’ pretty nervous, boy It just gets tougher everyday To sit around and watch it while it slips away Been called a traitor and a patriot Call me anything you want to but just don’t forget your history Dirty Lenny died so we could all be free F-U-C-K Fuck the FCC Fuck the FBI Fuck the CIA I'm Livin’ in the motherfuckin’ USA
I had never even heard of him, but Rolling Stone did a great story on him, with an interview too I think. He sounds pretty kewl actually!
performers that actually deserves to be heard. I hadn't really heard much of him besides "Copperhead Road" before I saw him last Saturday at the Showbox. I was floored at the show though by how much he had to say about real things in his songs. He played for at least 2 and a half hours non-stop, explaining just about every song along the way. My favorite was whichever one where he talks about "nothin but a poor boy off to fight a rich man's war..." So true. I felt like I was watching a real revolutionary preach, and the guy is an amazing writer. I haven't heard the album in question in this thread, but the songs from his new one "The Revolution Starts...Now" are really good. He's one of the few that everyone should hear no matter what your musical preferences are.
