So ok.. im goin for the gusto tonight i'm pretty sure.. for dinner im making a spaghetti.. slightly spicy.. made with bacon.. green.. red pepper.. tomatoes.. onion.. and i'm looking for a wine that'll match this well.. if somehow you could match it with a favorable red that would be great.. im not a fan of reds at all personally.. but if i can find something within reason.. i'll try it.. personally i like sauv. blanc.. chard.. reisling.. obviously though a white would match terribly with a red sauce.. so i'm askin for your wisdom... also im serving up some chocolate covered strawberries.. i'd probably match this meal with a merlot.. or a sauv.. but like i said.. i dont do reds.. so im seeing what else was a possibility
LOL, Pinot Noir is the correct choice. Even a Sharaz. However, Pinot Noir is my favorite wine to go with a lot of things. You can't go wrong and you can find some really nice ones for a resonable amount of money. Go French if you can. It will be around $15.00 to $18.00. Louis Jardot or George DeBuff. Both are of good quality for a minimal price.
how about red tail? my buddy really boasts about their merlot.. and i have heard a lot of good things about aussie wines
I love Aussie wines but I don't like Yellow Tail. Mass marketed swill. I have not had their Pinot but their other wines have "added" flavors that are not part of the natural wine making process. Go French or California for the Pinot. If you can't find a good one then I would ask if your sauce is sweet then you can go Shiraz. My other question I would have would be what you are serving with the chocolate covered strawberries? Champagne? Or would you prefer something a little more original like a Muscat. Muscat is a fortified wine like Port. It has a nice fruit finish, kind of like rasins that would go well with both the chocolate and the strawberries. Serve in a small glass. @Hippie Good Call with the wine by the way.
i've been looking for ideas on what to serve with the strawberries.. but i may just serve them straight up.. with a side of whipped creme
Or if you want to go another way with the Strawberries I have another suggestion. By the way they look great in your picture on the other thread. Another liquor choice would be to serve it with Grand Marnier. I have even injected some Grand Mariner inside them, not much just enough to taste and give a little bite but the strawberries will absorb some of the liquid. Yummy.
i have some leftover melted chocolate but no nuts or anything to use it with.. i was tryin to incorporate the rest of the chocolate into something to go with the strawberries.. but im at a loss.. i did see a thing for chocolate boxes filled with creme that was served with the chocolate strawberries.. but im not really good at fancy like that
im probably going with the Pinot... and i dont have any Grand Marnier.. otherwise that does sound amazing
Use the left over chocolate to drizzle them over the already dipped berries to give it a nice texture. Go on a diagnal from the top of the strawberry. No nuts. Whipped cream is not needed and will add additional fat flavor to the finish.
You can also serve a Sauvignon Blanc with Dessert, a Hogue would be good. Nothing too sweet nothing too dry. I hope that is helpful. I know I tend to throw a lot of ideas out but I don't know what is available to you and what your price range is.
I understand. Well, if you don't want to spend the money on two bottles of wine then I would go with the Pinot Noir for dinner and then you could make Hot Chocolate to go with Dessert. Very romantic. You can even use some of your left over chocolate to make it. Dip the strawberries in the hot coco just before you eat it. Trust me. Just a 2-3 second dip will soften the outsite of the chocolate so it does not break up when you bite into it.
