Ive been interested in yoga and meditation for the last six months but have never brought myself to start practicing it. I think im so overwhelmed by it, i dont really know where to start..There are so many different styles i cant decide where to start out...Do you guys have any suggestions for where i should start out learning to meditate and get good at yoga? Thanks
As I mentioned in the other Yoga thread I have been learning from "Light on Yoga" by Iyengar. As far as I understand the distinctions between styles the yoga in "Light on Yoga" is Iyengar yoga which is a twist on Hatha yoga that focuses on a lot of standing poses. For meditation I recommend "Meditation," by Eknath Easwaran. He presents information about not only meditation but using the mantram, single pointedness in attention, reading sacred texts, sharing the spiritual life with other people, etc. It's a really interesting book that shows you the meditation lifestyle, not just meditation, though it does show you how to meditate, obviously. "Meditation" was the first book by Eknath that I have read, but he seems like a really compassionate guy and is actually pretty funny throughout the book. I would check out the reviews on amazon.com; they can write reviews a little better than I can.
I recomend Tai chi. Meditation in motion. Its a good starting point and can lead you to more intense forms of meditation.
