Hey, i was looking at a lot of forums and this seemed to be a good one to join, my name is mike and im 18 years old, but to get to my question. I have extremely curly hair, people compare my hair to dog hair, but stretched out it is about 3 inches long maybe a bit over that, but i want to start doing the neglect method mixed with some back combing if that makes sense, so my question is with my curly hair, and how it is still pretty short, is it to early for me to start doing this method. any tips or people with similar hair that would post pics would be greatly appriciated.
Doesn't sound too early to me ^^ How do you mean mix back combing with neglect? Do you want to back comb them to begin with them let them do their own thing? Cus that's what most of us back combers have done (bar the weekly ripping session). If you want to just go neglect, just stop brushing, leave your hair alone. It'll take a year or so before you'll see any real progress- but have a look at some of the member's timelines here and you can see how much progress they made in a year, or less. The only tips you really need are: - Patience - Time will solve everything (probably) - Forget you have hair kkthxbai
If your hair is 4" long you can manage it, you may need to use some rubber bands initially. (Many replies will follow telling you not to use rubber bands, but they've worked fine for me for over 2 years)
Don't use rubber bands. Nah'm just kidding, do what you want, bands didn't work for me lol. And listen to Dragonvine!
:iagree: With my hairz, I saw progress at about 6 months... but yes it was about a year before they felt real solid and maybe a couple months over a year before they stopped shrinking and started to get a little longer. :iagree: aFoolOnaDread Thread... pictures of my hair at various stages of lockidge. Although it is not a timeline (everything's out of order), all the pictures are dated. I stopped combing in the end of August of 2008.
Sweet!! thanks for your help, but you said it will take a while before my hair actually starts growing, does that mean if i neglect my hair and let it do its own thing, it will grow slower cause its dreading? because in six months i want my hair to be longer, thats my whole reason for doing the neglect method.
You're hair is going to shrink no matter what. That's the whole purpose of dreads... They shrink as they are tightening and getting all dready, and after they are done doing that they start to grow. If I didn't have dreads my hair would be halfway down my back, but since I do have dreads my hair is just going below my shoulders. It takes awhile for them to get long.
So my hair is about 3 inches right now, in six months after doing the back combing, and once real dreads start to form, my hair will still be that length?
It'll be much longer. Though I would wait a couple more weeks, 3" is pretty short and they'll all be sticking up like spikes.
Are you serious? You've been wearing bands for 2 years straight? You're just supposed to put them in at the beginning and then take them out or the pieces get sucked into your dread, it happened to me and I've seen it happen to everyone else that used bands.
