I love Asheville.. so I would be there in no time I'm new to everything though and have a lot to learn!!!!
Asheville is the most lovely place I have ever lived. I love those mountains! Be careful about the transients passing through, though. There are a lot of real weirdos disguised as hippies who you may not enjoy sharing your home with for an extended period of time. You may want to talk with the 12 Tribes community there. They have a huge religious slant, but you may learn something useful. And there's also that yurt village out north of town. Near a place where they hold concerts called something like deer fields(?) I visited them once and they're really cool. Those are the two established communities in Asheville that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more, knowing that city. But talking to them at least might give you some good information on what you're getting into. And Earthaven isn't too far away. Those guys are great if you can get out to talk with them.
