I confess i have never really had an opportunity to get into it, but have a huge thing for science fiction concerning space etc... I once stumbled on an old episode being aired like at 4am after just smoking, i shredded a tear at the intro and really enjoyed it. My concern and excuse for not immediately jumping in is the amount of time it would consume me to watch it all, and the fact that i fear becoming anything like the general fanbase. That and i cant really afford a huge new hard drive right at this moment Is it worth it?
You can watch it free online on the NBC website (streaming) Definitely worth it imo You won't turn into a Star Trek geek... unless you REALLY want to
I used to really enjoy Star Trek-The Next Generation. It had some amazing ideas. Questions that made me question things. An amazing view of the future and how man should treat each other. I can still watch only a few seconds of a show and remember exactly what is going to happen-I've seen them so many times. But as I watch them now-although I still respect the ideas and ideals of the show-I see how clumsy some of the dialog is-that I never saw the first time (or 10 times afterwards) that I saw the show. That make me question myself. There are still some amazing shows in the series-scenes that I will always remember. Shows that I will always remember.
its a violation of General order # 1.. the Prime Directive, Since no primitive culture can be given or exposed to any information regarding advanced technology or the existence of extraplanetary civilizations, lest this exposure alter the natural development of the civilization... no advice can be give on what you should and should not do.. Ive said to much already... :leaving:
Trek and Pot, a winning combination If you are worried that other people might think you're a nerd for it then you are just a pussy anyway Get ripped, watch Trek and be proud!
Well, I guess I need to weigh in here. Star Trek, I could say so much but I don't want to sound like some overly beyone geek but I really enojoy it. Do I watch it every day. No. Do I know all of the episodes by heart, well....no but I would be hard pressed to watch one minute of any episode and not either tell you the title of the episode or at least the story line. Especially of the original series. I know my Trek and it is good. Yes, I am a geek, nerd or whatever but there is a reason that the fan base is so large. It's good stuff. Each series has it's own special place but the original series is fun in it's own right. You have to take it all in context as well. You can't watch the original series without knowing a little bit about the 60's, I sort of take that back, you can watch it but your understanding of some things may not be as good. It's really great to watch and does explore your mind as well as entertain. It's totally worth it to have as I own most of the series on DVD as well as have full copies on my computer. See, I have not watched it in a while and now I am getting the urge to do so. Let's just say, once your are in you will get addicted. Enjoy.
I just finished the watching all the episodes of the original series by watching one per night using netflix. It doesn't take up that much time if you spread it out. Like Startreken said the original series has a lot of 60's references even including one centered around hippies. I thought it was worth it and I don't know what you consider the gerneral fan base, but you probably won't end up like this......
I watched Star Trek The Motion Picture on Acid. It was awsome. The colors and the style of the movie were qute moving. However, I determined that Spock wore so much makup that he was gay. At the time anyway. If you are going to watch Star Trek, watch the original series. It's only 68 Episodes so it's not much of a commitment. If you like that give The Next Generation a try. It's campy and a little off the cuff at times but it's still fun. After that only true fans would go on to Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Enterpirse. However, if you at least watch the original series then you can watch the movies, at least up until Generations were they bring in the The Next Generation cast for the movies. However, I should be able to answer almost any Star Trek questions or trivia.
