This is a milestone for Star Citizen, because its the first enormous crowd funded venture like this, dedicated to using open source software and running exclusively on Vulcan, while $200 million is roughly the cost of a major Hollywood blockbuster or expensive AAA game today. Its another hopeful sign that along with all the work being done by AMD and others like Valve and Bethesda that, soon enough, Linux will become the operating system of choice millions of gamers. The amount of hardware going into video games these days implies that consoles and PCs alike are headed towards virtualization of the operating system, as the simple solution to all the bullshit, but we'll have to wait and see what happens. IBM just bought Redhat, and things could get interesting.
