I've got an intermittent, stabbing pain in my breast. It started yesterday. Now, it's occurring every 5 - 10 minutes.

Has anybody else had this pain?

Why not visit the ER and get it checked? Could be anxiety or something else.

reliable on-line medical sources are probably as good as anything you'll find here

not a sign of cancer unless it's coming from a lump

if it's severe or lasts more than 3 weeks, see a doctor. otherwise, just take a pain pill

It really does seem like a nerve related pain. It's probably part of the Fibromyalgia Syndrome. I have pains that migrate around my body with that.

It doesn't seem like a hot spot or anything cyst or lump like.

It'll probably bother me for a day or so and be gone.

Pinched nerve? When I had that accident last year with my shoulder I had pinched nerves all down my side and my neck and the referred pain would shoot into a lot of uncomfortable places.

You know, Irmi, I read something about arthritis in your spine could cause a pain like under your arm or the pectoral muscle; and in a woman it might feel like it's in the breast when it actually isn't.

    It'll settle down.

Thanks, to all, for the replies. :)

These days when I notice things about me that weren't there before I just try and ignore for up to three weeks. If it's still there I'll see about it, but lots of times it goes away. I think the worst is trying to diagnose online because I'm apparently riddled with cancers. It's scary I read and often has nothing to do with your symptons. They cause more stress and anxiety which worsens the effects of what your feeling to a degree.

I haven't had health insurance since 2009 so I'm not in and out of doctors like I once was.

    I am very rarely sick.

My body does a good job of taking care of itself.

I have my niggling pains but for the most part my body does a good job at healing itself. I catch colds easy enough etc. but they've never been Doctor worthy and I get over the bleh feeling after two days. Though I haven't had one in a while so it might be 3 days now that I'm late twenties. :D

Like a hangover now, if it was a awesome night it's two days. 1 day to be hungover and the second day is lack of sleep. >.>

Irmi, you're about my daughter's age. She will be 30 in January. My son turned 33 in August.

Whereabouts in your menstrual cycle are you? I frequently get breast pain (short stabbing twinges) around what would be ovulation. (At 58 I no longer ovulate obviously but I take HRT & still get all the symptoms of ovulation followed by a period). If it is getting to be a problem I would seriously suggest you see a health professional about it!

I am 55. I had a partial hysterectomy 15 years ago. I still have my ovaries but I have absolutely no idea what they are up to. There's been no hormone counts so I couldn't even tell you where I am in the menopause process.

Hmm....is the pain right behind the nipples? Or is it deep in the breast tissue?

My mom had a severe skin infection that spread quite rapidly a few years ago. Severe pain that occurred every few minutes, painful to the touch. Within a few days or a week it rose to the surface and started to spread, had to do a biopsy without anaesthesia. I didn't get a glimpse of it, because... c'mon, it's my mom :D But just gathered knowledge from what others were telling me. I just felt really bad for her because of how much pain she was in and having a biopsy while she was awake (plus me worrying and not getting any sleep and dealing with insensitive nurses and hospital staff). Just some insight on personal experience.

It's deep in the side of the breast tissue.

I'm still having it but it's not as bothersome tonight.

Luckily, this is not painful to the touch.

If it is fairly continuous it could be an abscess in the breast tissue (which may well need antibiotics), if it occurs when you move a certain way that would suggest a muscular strain, possibly your pectoral, in which case you simply have to wait for it to heal.

It's not worse, maybe less, so I'll ride it out.
