found this on the google group: Directions to Spring Council are up now. There are two version floating around. I have no clue the difference. I assume like all early directions they have issues, but so that you can see all the versions I am reposing his directions as posted to AGR. Hawker ---- From: http://www.welcomehome.org/rainbow/sites/annual-site.html Spring Council Directions Scouting is winding down after about 6 weeks of effort, and this weekend a site for Spring Council was selected by those at the scout council. Spring Council is June 10-11, and that is where the site will be discussed and consented apon. Some potential gathering sites are still inaccessible due to snow drifts blocking the roads, but the scouts are satisfied there are several site alternatives for the council to consider. From Steamboat Springs: BRING WATER! Follow rt 40 west out of town. Turn north at the light on rt 129, and follow this to Clark (last stop for gas). Just north of Clark is the "Glen Eden" Resort. Turn right (east) onto CR64. (Elk River Rd). Follow rt 64 3-4 miles to FS440. Turn right onto FS 440, and continue past the Hinman Campground several miles to where FS 400 intersects with FS 442. Here's a rough map: http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=40.73204,-106.84187&z=15&t=M&marker0=40.70... This is not the site for the gathering, but the site for Spring Council! The road is suitable for buses and low clearance vehicles. The council site is at the intersection of FS 440 and 442, *not* 400 & 442. Sorry for any confusion. - rob - I think you are right about it being 441. In any case, there are just a few roads in the immediate area. Once you turn off Seed House road (64) (refered to as the River Road on the map) and go over the bridge and past Hinman campground it will be hard to go very far wrong. If I remember right there is one dead end road to the left before the turn that takes you to 441. I think the water pump in the Hinman campground (a short distance away) should be working by now. It is normally turned on for Memorial day weekend... but if not, bringing your own water in quantity will be important. If you have water filters you willb e ablke to get water from various places within a mile or two. The Clark store has gas, some groceries, a post office and other odds and ends, but for real supply shopping, stop in Steamboat before coming further north. Other info on finding what you need below. To understand the directions.. US 40 and Lincoln Ave are the same thing. Lincoln Ave is what is it called in town. While 40 runs east/west overall it runs nearly north/south through our valley. Coming from the East/South on 40 the ski mountain is on your right. Downtown Oak Street is the next street to the right, Yampa to the left. The first numbered street in town is 3rd street where the post office and the Hot Springs are. Groceries: Big grocery stores are south of town. Nartural grocers are in town. The big stores (City Market and Safeway both offer pretty complete selections. Prices are a little better at Safeway. Both have some selection of organic produce and dairy. There is Bamboo Market (natural grocer) on Yampa street (One block off the main street) along the river near the between 10th and 11th. Healthy Solutions (natural grocer) is at the corner of 3rd and Lincoln. There is also Sweet Pea produce on Yampa street at about 7th street in addition to Safeway (Hwy 40 south of town) and City Market (central park plaza at the Mount Werner exit from 40) Hardware: Best selection is at ACE just west of Down town on the south side of US 40. The location is the next stoplight west of the turn onto HWY 129 in the directions. There is also stuff at Walmart in Central Park Plaze near the City Market. If you are looking for Lumber try BMC west on 20 mile road (turn at the library) or at employee owned Alpine Lumber on Pine Grove Road. (turn away from the ski mountain) Internet access: At the public library corner of US40 (Lincoln ave) and 20 mile road (would be 13th street if numbered) and at Mocha Molly's coffee shop at the corner of 7th and Lincoln. Hospital, Emergeny room: The local hospital is between US 40 and the ski mountain. Take the Mt Werner Rd exit from 40 and head toward the mountian. Turn left onto Steamboat Blvd. The hospital will be another left turn in a cout 100 yards. Outdoor gear: (water filters, bottles, sleeping bags, tents, warm stuff) can be found at Backdoor Sports on Yampa st (near 8th), Straightline Sports on Lincoln and 8th and at Ski Haus on the corner of Pine Grove Rd and US 40 South of down town. There is also a Gart Sports and a Walmart but for most part we like to support our local folks. Lift-up Thrift Store: Cheap used clothing and other things. Near the corner of 7th and Oak (one block off Lincoln the other way from Yampa street. Hot Springs: Strawberry Park Hot Springs is about 8 miles out of town up through Strawberry park. Developed natural setting (I know that is kind of contradiction in terms) ocst is about $8. Clothing optional after dark. No bottles or other glass. Take 8th street to park Ave to 36 Rd. Follow 36 road to the end. The other hot springs pool is right in town near the corner of 3rd next to the post office. Big building, several pools. Showers. Will be very crowded during the gathering dates as the 4th of July is a busy week in town. Other general Beta: Local LEO are pretty tight on DUI and DUID. Don't mess with it. If you are coming from the West and driving down from I-80 on the Baggs road to Craig go the speed limit through Baggs and I mean when it says 25 go 25... not 26. If there is other local info that folks need post a question here and I will do my best.
ahh i spent a week at strawberry many years ago.. im sure its changed a lot.. used to be a sweet kynd spot..
well i geuss its gonna be really fuckin close to steamboat then?? wow what a way to say weve decided before council.. so why is there a council at all? just release the permited sight already...
