I came home from work today to find an ultra-rare, spotted owl in the trees of my backyard.

I'm newer to the area and my neighbors pointed it out to me as I got home. They say it roosts in my yard around this time each year.

I had a shit day at work but this made it all better.

dont know what the last owl i seen was but it was just a curious baby one i came across in the woods last year while trying to follow a grouse

the one before that was a great horned owl...with about 5 foot wingspan....the whoosh it made flapping those wings was awesome

    I'm 50/50 on owls.
Sometimes they're cute and sometimes they ain't.
Well the baby owls ain't. But, I find the hooting to be adorable. Lots of bird life where I live. :)

Yes I have heard the swooshing sound of a great horned owl flapping it's wings. It's incredible.

Ok so I had to looked up what a barred owl was, not to be confused with barn owl. And yes they are completely different. This spotted owl I saw looked a little like a barred owl. The only way I could identify it was to take photos and look it up in my old bird book.

Spotted owls were in the endangered list when I was a kid. But they've come back.

The other owl story I had was about 10 years ago, 4 screech owls perched in a row on the diagonally open bathroom window of my parent's house one summer.

I for one would not be happy if i had an ultra rare owl roosting in my yard. Its just not the best place and i would have to bother not to disturb them.
I would tolerate and do my best if it would happen though.

The snowy owl although not native to the area begin arriving in November then return to their breeding grounds high in the arctic circle around April
