    The American star was rushed to hospital with a wound half an inch (1.5cm) deep in her upper back.
    Doctors said her injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

    The match contested between Italy and France. was won by Italy 5–3 in a penalty shoot-out following a 1–1 draw at the conclusion of extra time.
    The match however was best remembered for an incident between Zinedine Zidane and Italy's Marco Materazzi.
    Zidane's was sent off after he headbutted Materazzi.
    The incident was the subject of much analysis following the match.

    The plan was supposed to bring them good luck - but they were dumped out of the tournament in the second round by Croatia - providing more than enough ammunition for a few blonde jokes.

    Someone photoshopped this picture of Owens and Hitler after discovering U.S. Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt never publicly acknowledged Owens’s triumphs—or the triumphs of any of the other 18 African American athletes.
