SO my dreads are about a month to two months going, and some of them are really really fat. I was wondering if i could jsut rip them in half and have two dreadds. I mean they are like a good 3-4 times larger than the rest.

How do I go about making two out of one, thanks!

Don't think that's possible, unless they're not really locked up yet.

I did rip one of my daughter's largest dreads into two separate locks. No, they weren't totally knotted up yet, I grabbed the loose hairs at the end, and pulled them apart with all the strength in my arms, trying my best not to make her head bleed. It did work, but it's not something I am ever going to attempt again.

The hair tangles around and around, if you cut it in half I think lots of hairs will fall out or maybe the whole lock will fall of eventually. Unless you want to rip/cut two locks which have grown together a little bit, I wouldn't try.

my friend has cut hers before. from the root out.

    it worked.

though i think you have to roll them after a lot.

and if you were to ever comb out your dreads, you'd probably have hair of all different lengths..

Dont cut them. Alot of your hair will fall out because there will be nothing to hold it in.

I'm back! First post here in a while, hey everyone!

I just cut two of my dreads in half because they had swallowed so much hair it was pulling my hair in crazy directions and straining my neck.

But yeah, i've had my dreads for about... 5 months? 6 months? somewhere in there, and it worked fine. you REALLY have to work at cutting though. and WATCH where you are cutting so you dont lose too much hair. i only lost a very very minimal amount of hair.... when i cut it, there was some hair trapped in the dread all matted, and i pulled it out. it was a little TINY clump, so i would try if you have a steady hand, and patience!!! good luck.

    nice jobb!
i think that if you were to have more mature dreads, they would be so tight that they would hold all the lost hair... so you woulden't really lose any :p

My friend who had dreads for years turned 40 fatties into 80 thinnies just by ripping from the roots. Her hair is very fine and easy to tear tho. It sure didn't work for me when I tried it. Everbodys different. This much I know is true.
