has anyone else used splenda and had problems with it? a couple of weeks back, i began using splenda on most things i'd normally put sugar on. it tasted fine to me, didn't have any issues with the lack of real sugar in my diet. however, after a week or two i began to have headaches, insomnia, was sliding down into depression at a rather alarming rate, and was unable to focus on anything or anyone. suspecting that this might have to do with the amount of splenda i was consuming, i immediately cut way back on my splenda usage. since then, things have gone back to normal (albeit sleep deprived!). the other night i did a yahoo search on the matter to find out if that could have been the cause of my problems- and there's a lot of info out there indicating that it may very well have been the splenda. the symptoms fit perfectly. i was just wondering if any of you had ever had problems with splenda too....

is stevia safe for sure? i've used it occasionally in the past with no problems, and haven't been able to find anything negative about it in google searches aside from the fact that it's not approved by the FDA...which is crap anyway so i'm not too concerned about that...

In my opinion, sucralose is almost as bad as aspertame.

Stevia is my choice of sweetner.

stevia is safe...they have been using it in japan and other, non-western countries for a very long time without negative consequences.
the fda hasnt approved stevia b/c results were inconclusive that large amounts wouldnt promote cancer.... basically if they started adding it to coca cola and you were to drink ten sodas a day there MIGHT be problems... then again, that is just what they say...

however i think that is most likely bullshit... but, yes, stevia is defiantly safe used moderatly, like in tea... and much better for you then other sweeteners.

I find stevia leaves an after taste, but if u like it, that's all that counts. Xylitol is approved by the fda. I don't really use these sugar substitutes as i'm not diabetic, i just use honey, demerra (sp.) sugar, etc in place of refined sugar whenever possible.

being diabetic is not nearly the only reason to give up or mostly give up sugar.... the fact that it has so many calories and is horrible for you is a good enough reason. ;)

yah, stevia has a unique taste... i like it though.

stevia for calorie free, honey and dried date sugar for baking.......last two a high glycemics but more natural and stevia is an aquired taste that hasn't worked out so well for me in baking. for baking i let a few bananas gor really ripe process them in a blender add some pitted dates and prunes and use it instead of oil and egg yolks and it's better actually-chewier.

i have never heard anything bad about stevia. it can be difficult to get the amts right when baking, but i think it's a safe & healthy alternative. i have, on the other hand, heard LOTS of negative info about splenda & other 'fake' sugars. most of those substances have not been studied long enough before they're released onto the market....SCARY! natural is best imo & i'd rather use small amts of real sugar (if diabetes is not a concern) than ANY quantity of pseudo sugar. & if i do choose sugar, i always use a whole form, like raw turbinado or honey & NEVER use as much as a recipe suggests. once your tastebuds adjust, regular recipes seem too sweet anyway.

The liquid form has no after taste. I like the aftertaste in teas ect but not in latte's or baked goods. I used the liquid form when I made brownies today and used protein powder, prune juice and carob powder instead of half of the mix and yogurt instead of the oils and eggs and it turned out really good and with very little refined sugar (the mix does not have any sugar in it so it allows you to choose what you want to use and is organic and whole grain besides the choc obviously) but yeah they're pretty good.
