Furious local leaders condemn ‘spiteful’ and ‘nasty’ imposition of Tier 3 rules

Local politicians have reacted angrily to the "spiteful, vindictive and nasty" way Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions are being introduced in Greater Manchester.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that harsher rules would come into effect in the region from the early hours of Friday, in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus, with £22 million of support for local authorities.

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said attempts to strike a deal collapsed after the Government refused to meet his demand for £65m to support the livelihoods of people in the region as they face the closure of pubs, bars, bookmakers and other premises.

The Government is yet to confirm if there will be any extra cash for businesses, which provoked anger from Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell.

It's an utter disgrace that businesses and workers in GM won't get an extra penny from government to support them in Tier 3.Andy is right: it's utter spite.The idea of all in this together has been totally shattered this week.

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner was similarly enraged, and called the lockdown news "disgraceful" and "a punishment".

She said: "Greater Manchester been badly let down by the PM and his cronies in govt.

"Spiteful, Vindictive and Nasty, so many will now suffer great hardship, it will be the ones again who can least take it."

She had said earlier: "The Government have failed us in Gtr Mcr and we won't forget it."

"Andy Burnham is right to stand up to protect our communities."

Ms Rayner is the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne which will now also be moved into the Tier 3 category

Mr Burnham spoke to reporters in Manchester minutes shortly beore the Prime Ministers Downing Street address, and was informed of the £22m figure when shown on a phone.

The shadow foreign secretary called the incident "disgraceful".

Lisa Nandy, MP for Wigan tweeted: "In 10 years in Parliament I've never seen anything like this.

"MPs are on a call with the Health Secretary being told Greater Manchester is getting only £22m while our mayor is at a press conference being told by the media.

"This is bad faith, it's immoral – just disgraceful."

She added: "I grew up under Thatcher but I've honestly never seen anything like this."

 

Of course they are a bunch of bastards, they don't care about anyone but them!
When I'm not working we are expected to survive on my wife's wage, £1300 a month, yet that fat prick is moaning he can't survive on £150k a year ffs!
There's no consistency on the tiers either, in my area, merseyside, tier 3 means gyms, bars and other places must close, in Lancs, also tier 3, these places can remain open!
Now here's a good one, Halton near Runcorn, they are policed and governed by Cheshire, however they come under the same PCT (primary care trust) as Merseyside, and therefore have been lumped with a tier 3 lockdown, the rest of Cheshire is in tier 2, figure that out.
The whole thing is a load of bollocks and it won't end well mark my words.

 

So when are you loading up the tanks and heading down the M.6 to start the revolution ???

 

I think some of us in the North especially in Manchester feel we have been let down badly by Boris in what I can only regard as an ego stunt . All it would have required is somewhere between 5 million and 15 million to support the poor and vulnerable . Yet they spend many millions on contracts .

This will cause big resentment and I know Andy was only towing the "party" line when he said that he expects everyone to follow the rules .

 

Yeah and the bastards can afford to pay 'Track & Trace' (so called) experts £7000.00 per day !!! These so-called 'experts' are SERCO employees !!!

 

To be honest I'm surprised the IS mob haven't started something, it would do wonders for their popularity.

 

And you know what they say about experts don't you!

Mr Johnson said he was "very proud that this government has already given Greater Manchester £1.1bn in support for business, £200m in extra un-ringfenced funding, £50m to tackle infections in care homes, £20m for test and trace, another £22m for local response that we announced yesterday".

Greater Manchester will also be given £22m to help enforce tier-three rules, plus £60 million to assist Manchester lockdown in keeping with all other areas, except Manchester Labour Loonies want more and are happy to play politics while hundreds die to boost Labour egos.

 

Oh !!! a member of the scumbag 'nasty party' - so tell us all how is boris's "world beating" Track and Trace system going ??? - where is these 500,000 tests a week - hmmm ??? Why is it that businesses are folding and that there will be many hundreds if not thousands of extra unemployed in the weeks to come ??? Why wouldn't thatr scumbag-in-chief commit the 'nasty party' to providing school meals for children during term breaks, whereas the Welsh Government (NOTE a labour administration) have already done so ??? and why would that scumbag-in-chief commit to keeping the current rate of Universal Credit instead of cutting it again in April ??? - hmmm ???

 

Nobody was playing politics as some of the Tory MPs of the local area were united in resisting Tier 3 .

The problem is it is not enough to protect businesses .the vulnerable and the poor on low paid jobs. I live in the Manchester conurbation so I know what its like at a local level and not somewhere else just looking in .

You have to bear in mind Manchester has been in some sort of Lockdown since the end of July and its already decimated small businesses and pushed many others on the poverty line .

Its not of case the local leaders wanted more they needed more . The Manchester case is totally different from the rest of the Tier 3 because as previously stated restrictions have already been in place for some time now

I just hope making a comment like that assuming you live in the UK that your job is secure when your area becomes a Tier 3 area and its not one of those jobs that will be lost .

As sure as night follows day your area may well be affected it may not tomorrow nor the day after .. Covid isn't going away and no number of Lockdowns will work .Covid will get us all eventually .

 

Just as well Manchester has the Tory Party to give them funding as the final bill for this lot will run into trillions. The chances of the semi-illiterate Labour Party Party ever being lent the money by the institutions is about zero.

 

Ever hear of nationalising the banks and expropriating the money ??? - not a Labour Party solution, but a 'Socialist' solution !!!

Personal accounts in banks are perfectly safe irrespective of whether the bank is nationalised or not - stupid sod !!!
