Just wondering what the thoughts are here on speculums. I've been considering getting one. Are they worth the money, good types, bad types.... Any experiences with them out there?

What is the benefit? Good question, I don't know that there is a benefit really, but just something else to try. Satisfy a curiosty, build another level of trust and comfort, maybe that, maybe something else, who knows. Everyone has their own thing. I am interested in other peoples experiences on this one.
When ever I've seen a speculum in use I shudder. They look very medevil to me, like something the spanish inquision would use to force a confession. I've only seen them used on my wife when she was pregnant and when getting her IUD, but I think they are ultra-creepy looking.
they dont hurt me usually... but i associate them with my miscarriage and the consequent D&C and believe me sister, it was sure as fuck painful then...
Aw jeez, I'm sorry hon, that's not an experience I would wish on anyone. I think they look like ducklips... my friends and I, when we first started getting pap smears (we all went on BC around the same time, though we were all single at the time too lol) always joked about the duck lips we had to see at doctor's visits.. yeah, we were a strange bunch.
My assumption is that this question stems from seeing speculum play used in porn; that's where I first became familiar with the concept. I strongly suspect however, that this is almost an entirely MALE fantasy (like most porn), and satisfies the male's curiosity about how the inside of the vagina looks. It's one of the only ways we guys ever get to see the cervix. One of the very first ob/gyn appointments I attended with my wife, the Dr. had me come over and see my wife's cervix. On a sexuality scale of 1 to 10, I would guess that experience for my wife probably rated like a negative 3. For me however, it was VERY arousing, and would have been FAR more arousing without the Dr. in the room.
