Hey--the one on the left promised me a lot of money. He's royalty, you know!! What does the fact that I'm still waiting a year for it have to do with anything??
I am not the only vigilante mod to crush spam. its very rare that someone with no power is not here at the time spammer gets out of control. it only take a few minutes for one to go ape shit and make the front page look like ape shit. and we certainly cant keep our eyes on the forums 24/7 ... we thank you for your patients and reporting such spam, it will alert someone soon enough. so spammers /god knows they dont read this shit/ not having much success on this site... we just dont put up with it., and its gone just as fast is came.. squirrels are quick.. and so are the ever elusive Canadian bbad's..
It can be tricky to stop. I put a whole bunch of things on my forum - a good quality captcha, a hidden profile field, javascript-only sign-ups... maybe other stuff I can't remember. It took quite a few before they stopped!
i still have a hard time believing that spamming is actually an effective advertising tool. does ANYONE actually click on that shit?
it's all free... I actually even use a free forum software package lol But yeah erm, I'm sure Skip has some tricks up his sleeve too hehe
Hoppi...more information please. Free is all I wanna hear. I'm paying way too much for my website and I'm trying to figure a way out of it.
If me mods didnt have spam to delete, we would have to keep busy banning people for arguing a little.. u wouldnt want that now.. lol.
Ah cool. Well, I use MyBB (which is completely free), Coppermine for a gallery (free) and AJAX chat for a chat room (free). They're all bridged with each other. Also, I rent a VPS for like £20 a month but only because the website is quite heavy on resources and stuff. I could probably run it for like $2.99 a month otherwise. I quite like having my VPS though. I get my cheap hosting from ifastnet but use pidginhost at the moment. I get my domains from internetbs (cheap) So erm... yeah ^_^
i didn't know there was any webforum software that you had to pay for. i know phpbb was free when i used that, and it was very functional, easy to work with, and included mods that allowed you to do pretty much anything you want with it. i was under the impression that vbulletin was free too. i think hosting is generally where the costs come from.
