why is there a section on masters and slaves in the bible?? umm im pretty sure slavery is wrong in every way. its like saying things like how slaves should obey their masters like they would the lord... eh?
Its because back in those days god was unaware that we would not condone slavery in the 20th and 21st centuries or he naturally wrote the bible to keep people ignorant that one day mass communication would render world wide opinion on the matter to a larger audience than he ever got - as most people who watch the news arent christians nor have they been - Perhaps the high priests at the BBC with their long flowing robes will one day realise god was right and that a slave should do his duty again but I doubt it - the bible is a book like 1984 or Farenheit451 so it cant tell us much about reality just about what happened when it was written. Also in the bible they didnt realise how impractical it would be to fit 20 slaves into fuel-economic cars. Though it might be why buses were invented
In fairness, the Slave system of Rome was a whole lot closer to our modern system of credit card debtors working shitty jobs because they have to. For a whole lot of people it was the equivalent of 'Community Service' and for others it was a pretty fuckin sweet gig. A well placed Slave was often highly influential and certainly 100s of times more 'important' than any given Barbarian on the outside would ever hope to be. But anyways, Jesus does not have anything to do with fighting or changing the socio-economic system and believe me the Romans had far worse shit going on than their slave-system too. At the time they occupy Judea for crying out loud. Jesus and his followers abide by the laws of the land. Actually its was important that they did maintain themselves that way. Christianity spreads and Slavery dies. There is some really good stuff on this in the NT and about how they lived and worked through that whole deal. In Christ there was no slave or freeman but practically they lived under the societies rules. Very cool.
Columbo Yes.. unfortunelty.. god is NOT omnipotent. Rational beings do not condone slavery Maybe god was drunk Occam
Using your powers of 'reason' please show where you think God 'condones' slavery, and, if so, Why a rational being could not do this? No, just shitting you dude.. I dont really want you to try that lol!
El proximo DOH Exodus 21:20-21 "When a man strikes his slave, male or female, and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money. Occam
