Opera has always been one of my favourite arts and having visited Egypt, travelled up the Nile and seen the Temples of Karnak, Edfu and Philae Island as well the Valley of the Kings, this Opera, by Guiseppi Verdi was on my mind. Many years ago there was a 'live' performance of this Opera in its entirety at the place it was originally set - the Pyramids of Cairo.
Bizet's 'Carmen' I have seen many times. I last saw this though performed in the National Operatic Theatre in Prague many years ago.
Another beautiful Opera - although I know it quite well, its not one I have seen performed 'live' (although I would like to have done).
Whilst not strictly 'classical' per se, this man's voice was truly amazing. When I was first introduced to his music (on record) I refused to believe that it was just one man singing, that there had to be a femaile too. However, a short time later, I actually saw him on television as guest performer on an international cabaret programme. I sat absolutely awe-struck !!! The first track (evening Bell) is beautiful and listen till the very end and you will hear just how large Ivan's voice range spans.
For those of a 'certain' age, they will remember Gene Kelly dancing with 'jerry' mouse to some of this, but another beautiful tone poem by Rimsky-Korsakov
Some of you may recall that British Airways used this as their advertising 'jingle' many years ago, but it was originally written by Delibes in his Opera @Lakme'.
Oi !!! - If you wish to post 'classical music' threads - then do so, by all means, BUT IN YOUR OWN THREAD - NOT MINE !!!
A variation on a theme - Nana Moskouri has put different words to 'The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves' from Verdi's opera Nabucco.
Bellini wrote a beautiful opera entitled 'Norma'. Nana Mouskouri performs an aria from that opera entitled Casta Diva:
Outside a few Mozart and Beethoven Concerto’s and Symphony’s, Carl Orff’s,Carmina Burana is my favorite
