So, having just pasted about ten Amish buggies on the road today, I was wondering...

A buggy is almost a lane wide, or so. So on a two lane road without much berm the buggy takes up half a lane and the berm. Which means cars must go around them, by moving into the oncoming lane, which is dangerous for the car and any oncoming cars and the buggy.

Now, as most buggies are pulled by one horse, or at least many are, why not make the buggy one horse wide? It could still carry many people by placing them one behind the other, motorcycle fashion. It would be longer, but narrower.

    I think it's a good idea.

Okay, so maybe not quite as stable in a high crosswind, as it might get blown over...but much more stable heading into or with the wind. More arrow dynamic also. Come to think of it, why not aerodynamic buggies? Save ware and tear on the horse.

Also, I was thinking. Amish farms are pretty big to get around by walking and hitching up a horse to a cart or wagon is work, as you have to brush the horse after use and such. So, why don't the Amish use goat or dog carts to get around like the "normal" farmers use quad-runners? Goats and dogs are much cheaper and easier to take care of than horses.

    So what's with that?

    Gooood morning,

the Amish will be fucked just a little bit later than everyone else I think. When the shit hits the fan people raid the Amish farms really soon because there is nothing to eat in their homes and there is nothing in the stores anymore to buy. Oh, and they will eat the horses, too. So the buggy problem -if it is a problem- get solved ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

that goes with what shit and where is the fan statement. although it is true the amish dont have the means to defend themselves properly, any smart person would know that if you pillaged an amish farm you would only get that years crops...what are you going to do next year?

    Hello,

a proper hit with a pitchfork and you are done. And I think Amish know how to use a pitchfork.

The presumption that people are smart is wrong ;).

My advice to the Amish is to make smaller fireplace tv stands so I could buy a mahogany tv stand that would fit where I want it...

And why is Amish furniture so expensive? Although they usually will put a roof on your house far cheaper then most.

Many people don't know that some Amish drive cars, use gasoline engines, have telephones and freezers out in the barn, use pesticides, and so on.
